It is with deep sorrow that the family announce the passing of their adored husband, father and grandfather Delko Blazanin, who passed away in the early hours of April 26, 2023, at the age of 80, with his loving wife and children by his side.
Delko was born to his parents Ivan and Ana on December 10, 1942 in Udbina, Croatia. At only two days old his family fled with him and his brothers on foot to escape the ethnic cleansing of his village. He was baptized 5 days later on December 15th in the village of Lovinac and was named after his godfather, General Delko Bogdanic. His family settled in Sigetec, a village alongside Koprivnica, when he was three weeks old. They would eventually make this their home. However, in May 1945, his mother, took Delko and her other three sons and ended up in the exodus of Croatians known as the Križni Put (The Way of the Cross) walking from Sigetec to Zagreb and then to the Austrian border (a trek of almost 400 kilometres). Fortunately, God had other plans for them and saw them return safely back to Sigetec, where in 1946, the family welcomed his baby sister.
At 19 Delko left Croatia on his own and made his way to Canada, to start a new life. Still, he was very proud of his Croatian homeland and heritage and always held the hope that he would one day see a liberated Croatia. In 1965, he met the love of his life, Vera Obajdin at a Croatian picnic, and it was love at first sight. They married in 1967 and lovingly created a family together.
One of the youngest Croatian real estate brokers of his time, he served the Croatian community faithfully. Delko was a force of nature, with a strong sense of justice and approached all things in life with honesty and integrity. He was the kind of unforgettable man who drew people in with his charm and storytelling, along with his incredible singing voice, leaving a lasting impression on all those that crossed his path.
Delko was the cherished husband of Vera for 55 years. Father to Marijana (Damir), Delko Ivan (Christina), Ana (Jason) and proud and beloved Deda (grandfather) to Josip, Veronika, Mihael, Delko Matthew, Ante, Teja and Ella. He was a bright light that illuminated the lives of his loved ones and his generosity knew no bounds.
His family and faith were everything to him. Not a day will go by where he is not loved and missed.

Ne plačite ako me istinski volite!"
