In Celebration of

David L. Shelley

August 29, 1936 -  June 4, 2021

Died peacefully on the evening of June 4th, 2021, at the age of 84. He is predeceased by his wife Sally and his siblings Elaine, Bob, Doris and John. Former husband and friend of Joy. A people-person with a generous smile, Dave was loved by his children, David (Aizada), Lindsay, and Rob (Marie). Step father to Chris (Kim). Proud grandfather to Jared, Matthew, Benjamin, Cameron, Chloe and Ayan.
Dave grew up in Kitchener, Ontario, raised his own family in Oakville, and finally settled in Mississauga.
Dave was well loved and respected by the many loyal employees of his businesses over the years: Motel 27 and Shelley’s Esso Gas and Wash in Etobicoke; The Mohawk Inn, Campbellville; Holiday Inn Express, Stoney Creek; and the Country Inn, Oakville.
He had keen eye for recognizing a “good deal,” little aversion to risk, and a logical, analytical mind to craft ideas, buildings and people into a business.
Passionate about golf, he was the volunteer coordinator of hospitality at the Canadian Open for many years and member of Credit Valley Golf club for over 50 years.
He had a fondness for Teen Ranch, the summer camp influential in the lives of his kids.
His family is also grateful for the help and friendship offered by Oakville Strokers, which helped Dave to navigate his last 17 years as a stroke survivor. A private family service will be held Sunday, July 11, 2021, at 3 pm. the link to view the service is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ju612OC_rW4

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in his name to TeenRanchMinistries.org or to OakvilleStrokers.ca

Dave was such a joy and bright light to experience at Credit Valley Golf & Country Club.

I only played with him once before his stroke, long held admiration for his spirit in recovery (and Sally’s support) as he came out to help with the ice damage cleanup in 2009.

Other memories include his still coming out for events, some one handed putting and the joy in the room when he was the raffle winner of a big golf bag!

We had a chalk board with a sandwich list, Sally would let him order whatever he could lift his arm to point to, great to watch their process and progress as Dave got to the roast beef.

Dave, you are gone, I will always remover the smile & one armed raking!

Much saddened to hear the news of Uncle Dave’s passing. He will be missed as I know my mom had a special bond with her little younger brother. Often We would think of Uncle Dave as we drove past Motel 27 enroute back to McMaster in Hamilton. Margaret recalls him letting us park at the hotel for flights out of Pearson on several occasions. Our heartfelt condolences go out to cousins David, Lindsay and Robert as well as aunt Joye
