In Celebration of

David John Rowan

June 15, 1949 -  December 1, 2020

Passed suddenly Tuesday, December 1st, 2020 surrounded by his family, following an aberrant asthma attack the previous day. Born in Woodbridge, Ontario, June 15, 1949, to the late John and Isabelle (Hingley) Rowan. Beloved husband to Margaret (Nee: Carter), devoted Dad to Terri (Bill) and James (Bethany), and the best Grampa to Rowan.

Dave took immense pride in providing for his family; summers by the pool, a hand in the garden, or the ever-ready driver to practice, road trips, or away to school. He ensured both his children graduated university with degrees (the firsts in his family) and without debt. He shared his love of travelling with his family, touring the East Coast and trips to the tropics, and later, life-long dream trips to Hawaii, Egypt, England, and Paris with his beloved Margie.

A world traveler in business, he lived by a mantra to never give up and wore (like a badge of honor) the title of ‘a Tenacious son of a --Explicative deleted--.‘ He filled his life with his many passions – technology and gadgets, music, DIY projects -- and was a firm believer in the power of sport and athletics. From his youth as a varsity athlete, to his autumn years on the golf course and in the curling rink, Dave was fiercely competitive, but always, and in all things, a gentleman first.

He loved nothing more than sharing his hard-earned expertise. Whether building a deck or perfecting one’s backswing, he was always willing to give what he could to help others. A note on technique, a handful of decent golf balls, or perhaps, his favourite axiom (that he learned from his father) that ‘there is always the right tool for any job.’ He loved quietly but immensely and he will be profoundly missed by all who knew him.

A celebration of life will be planned when friends and family may safely gather. The family requests that donations in his name be made to either Asthma Canada or Jumpstart.ca – a group dedicated to bringing access to sport for children of all situations.

With sympathy and best wishes for you to find strength in your memories. He may be gone from site, but never forgotten.
