It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of David George Diston on December 27, 2024, at the age of 92. He was blessed in life and in death, passing peacefully at home with family present, Gudrun by his side as she was throughout their 67 years together.
Born in Wembley, England on August 10, 1932, David immigrated with Gudrun to Canada in 1957, where they built a remarkable life in Niagara Falls. A dedicated and accomplished professional in the Wine Industry, he played a pivotal role in shaping the region’s wine culture. His commitment to his work was matched only by his unwavering faith, which guided and enriched his life.
David was a devoted and caring husband to Gudrun (Andersch), and together they created a loving family legacy. He was the proud father of six children: Carmen (IBVM), Michael (Leslee), Dolores (Iain), Marion (Hans), Tessa and Yolanda (David). His love extended to his 14 grandchildren: David (Micah), Karen (Nolan), Richard (Margeaux), Geoffrey (Nicole), Michael, Erik (Livia), Rane, Michael (Linda), Jason (Kristin), Theresa (Julian), Mark (Mel), Matthew (Trevor), David & Emily, and his 12 great-grandchildren: Zoe, Emmit, Kennedy, Logan, Rory, Benedict, Brooks, Billie, Sage, Maverick, James & Anneliese. He was the beloved & respected uncle of many nieces and nephews in England, The United States and Australia. With Gudrun he maintained a special closeness with friends who became family both in Canada and around the world.
David was a practical man but many enjoyed his dry British sense of humour. His deep, rumbling voice enthralled his grandchildren and great-grandchildren through many stories and songs.
A man of deep faith, he was an active member of his church and wider community, where his kindness and generosity touched countless lives. His devotion to family, faith, and his work will be remembered as his enduring legacy.
