In Celebration of

David Cann

August 7, 1956 -  May 21, 2019

With sadness and love we announce the death of David Crichton Cann on May 21, 2019. Dave was born on August 7, 1956 to James and Anna Leonna (Crichton) Cann, and grew up in Eden Mills as the oldest of four siblings. He graduated from Acton District High School in 1975 and from the University of Guelph in 1981, with a B.A. in history and geology (“Rocks ROCK!”). He was an avid member of the university’s Outdoors Club, and throughout his life loved birdwatching, rambling the trails at the family farm, and hunkering down to read his latest sci-fi novel. He was a long-time member of Swansea Dog Obedience Club in Toronto, where he enjoyed a stint as Training Director and especially delighted in leading the puppy obedience classes.

He was a devoted and loving husband to Judith Louise Wasserfall since September 1,1984; celebrating 35 years of marriage.

Dave is survived by his father, James Cann; his wife Judy; his children Gregory David Wasserfall Cann (Urszula), Heather Anne Wasserfall Cann (Aaron), and Margaret Louise Wasserfall Cann; his siblings Mary Ellen Cann, Andrew James Ferguson Cann (Allison), and John Gordon Cann (Susan); as well as his nieces and nephews. Dave was an enthusiastic grandfather to Sophia Anna Cann and Julian David Cann Michaux - both of whom adored their fun-loving grandpa.

Dave will be sorely missed by his family and friends: for his booming laugh that could fill a room, his love for the natural world, and his no bull**** attitude tempered by a deep generosity and kindness toward others.

A visitation will be held at the Turner & Porter “Peel” Chapel (2180 Hurontario St., Mississauga) on Monday, May 27 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. A celebration of life will be held at the Chapel the following morning, Tuesday May 28, at 11:00 a.m., with a lunch reception to follow.

If desired, donations in David’s memory can be made to Nature Conservancy Canada (http://www.natureconservancy.ca/en/) or to the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation (https://www.thepmcf.ca).

We were both so sad to hear of Dave's passing. Both Gary and I really liked Dave. He was a very kind and caring person. We will never forget Dave's thoughtfulness and compassion for our little cat Thomas.
It was also so nice to see how devoted he was to Judy. They were an amazing couple!
We are always here for you Judy, especially now during this very difficult time.

Dear Judy and family - we are so saddened to hear from Linda of Dave's passing away.
He will now be free from the pain and battle with cancer. We enjoyed meeting him for the first time not so long ago at our luncheon date in Guelph with Linda and Shirley. You are in our thoughts and prayers. (Dave Steckley & Evelyn Hurt, Acton)

Had no idea of Dave's passing unil I read his Dad's obituary in the wellingtomAdvertiser this week in July.....my sympathy indeed to Judith and his family. The Canns were one of the first families I knew in my early days at Acton HS in 1974. To Mary Ellen Andy and John and family please know that you are well remembered and that Dave always brought me to laughing too. A special fellow he was.......Dave Jones, Fergus, ON
