In Celebration of

Daniel Terrence (Terry) McCool

November 17, 1941 -  May 26, 2022

With deep sadness we announce the passing of Daniel Terrence (Terry) McCool, 80, of Mississauga, on May 26, 2022. Terry passed away peacefully at the Trillium Health Centre after a brief palliative stay. He will be missed by many family and friends including his loving wife Marilyn; children Kelly (Dave), Shannon (Logan), and Sean (Leah); grandchildren Addison and Matthew; and his brother James (Joh).

Terry was born on November 17, 1941 in Calgary to Patrick & Catherine McCool. He graduated from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy. He joined Eli Lilly Canada in 1970 and held various leadership roles within the company, retiring in 2012 as VP of Corporate Affairs. Terry always held a deep love and appreciation for his peers at Eli Lilly. Many careers flourished under Terry’s leadership and mentorship. Upon retirement he held various consulting and advisory roles including the International Centre for Health Innovation at the Ivey School of Business and the Ontario Bioscience Innovation Organization (OBIO).

Terry was always a natural athlete and grew up playing a wide range of sports. With his brother, James, they were part of the Calgary Senior Men’s Fast Pitch team, the Calgary Orioles, and was inducted into the Softball Alberta Hall of Fame in 1989. Along with a passion for hockey and skiing, any spare time Terry had was usually spent on the golf course, and he was lucky enough to play some legendary courses along his travels. If he wasn’t golfing, you could always find him busy in his yard or going for walks throughout the neighbourhood.

In 2017 Terry suffered a life changing spinal cord injury that left him unable to walk. We can’t thank the teams enough at St. Michaels Hospital, Lyndhurst Rehabilitation Centre, RMI, Entwhistle Power Occupational Therapy and Propel Physiotherapy for their support. In just a couple months, Terry was walking again and back on the golf course the following year. We also want to thank the Alzheimer’s Society, the Home & Community Care Support Services of Mississauga Halton, and staff of the Trillium Mississauga Hospital for all their care and support over the last year. Although his quality of life was challenging these last few years, we know he is in a better place. He’s looking down on us with his big smile and a scotch and cigar in hand.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday July 16, 2022 in Milton, ON. More details will be shared at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made on his behalf to a charity of your choosing.

While Terry and I did not overlap at Rx&D/IMC, I have heard those who did know him well speak of him in the most generous of terms. He was clearly a valued member of the pharma community in Canada, and will be dearly missed. Please accept our sincere condolences on your loss, from all of us at Innovative Medicines Canada. Wishing the entire family many warm memories to help you through this challenging time.
