Born June 18, 1929 in Lucknow India to parents George and Ivy Swingler. Predeceased by her parents and younger brother Carlton. Survived by nieces Suzanne and Michelle and great nephews Max and Harrison in England and many friends in her adopted homeland, Canada.
Crena’s school years were spent at La Martiniere School in India where she lived until 1947. Her parents returned to England when India gained its’ Independence and Crena followed and started her working career.
In 1960 Crena immigrated to Canada and because she had worked briefly for British Airways in England she was quick to get a job with the newly formed Air Canada. Her career with Air Canada spanned three decades and although she quit briefly when her father died in 1965 to return to England it wasn’t long before she came back to Canada and resumed her employment with the airline she loved. Crena retired in 1991.
Crena was an avid traveller and a person with a deep faith. She was generous and supported many charities at home and abroad. Her passion was helping the homeless and those less fortunate than herself.
Cremation has taken place and a service will be held Saturday, January 27, 2024 at 2:30 p.m. at St. Olaves Anglican Church 360 Windermere Ave (corner of Windermere and Bloor St. W.) where she was an active member from 1979 when she moved to the West End of Toronto until just recently. The service will be live streamed and the link will become available on the Turner and Porter Yorke Chapel website.
