In Celebration of

Corinne McDonald

August 10, 1928 -  September 4, 2022

It is with heavy hearts that Corinne’s children announce her death on September 4th. Corinne was pre-deceased by Carson, her husband of 50 years, in 1999. She is survived by her children, Ann (James Wright) Ottawa, Lynne ( Richard Sweeting),Tsawwassen BC, Bruce, Bolton, Jane (Paul Mitcham) Burlington, Shirley ( Kalin Johnson, deceased) Oakville and Sandra ( Peter Lochead) London, ON. She was the proud grandmother of fifteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

Mom grew up in downtown Toronto, but had fond memories of her summers in Tavistock, ON where she worked in her maternal grandparents’ general store, played tennis and partied with the local teenagers.

After completing high school, mom worked at Toronto Western Hospital. Corinne met Carson on a double date and was swept away by his good looks and charm. They married in 1949 despite her father’s concern that
Carson was 10 years older. Children quickly followed and mom became a full-time housewife.

Our family has fond memories of summers at Lake of Bays until mom and dad exchanged cottage life for winters in Titusville Florida. However, mom’s happiest years were at their home on Edenbrook Hill in Etobicoke. Carson and Corinne loved to entertain with large dinner parties. Dad would barbeque at the indoor grill and mom prepared the rest of the meal and all the desserts. She was a wonderful pie maker and taught us never to serve guests “skimpy” pies.

Golf and bridge were Corinne’s passions. She was a member of Islington Golf Club for over 40 years and past president of the Ladies Section. She golfed into her mid-eighties and played bridge as often as she could.

Carson and Corinne downsized to a condominium in Mississauga in the 1980’s and Corinne moved to Delmanor Retirement Home in 2014. Dementia necessitated a relocation to Ottawa, and she lived at the Ravines Residence until her death. The family thanks the staff, especially those who worked on the third floor, for their care and kindness.

A private family funeral has been held. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Salvation Army or a charity of your choice.
