In Celebration of

Clarke William Wodchis

June 2, 1956 -  November 4, 2017

Clarke passed away peacefully in his sleep on November 4, 2017 at his Toronto home. Regrettably, he had just been diagnosed with a challenging and uncompromising illness. Clarke was predeceased by both his parents, Phyllis and Fred Wodchis. He is survived by his sister Ellen, (St Catharines) and brother, Michael and family: Karen, Kaye and Vaughn (Austin, Texas).

Born in North Vancouver and living in many locations throughout North America as a youth, Clarke graduated from Ridley College and Brock University, both in St Catharines. He loved being a teacher at Martingrove Collegiate Institute in Toronto for the last 30 years where his passion for education and giving to others was unbridled. He taught a generation of students innovative courses in computers, entrepreneurship and business. He was regarded as invaluable and committed by both his colleagues and decades of students.

Clarke had many and varied interests that he especially enjoyed sharing with others: investments, cycling, backyard grilling, sports, native trees, humour, landscaping and renovating his townhouse just to name a few. Clarke had a wide yet intimate network of people in his life including his immediate family and cousins, his very close group of friends, his current and past colleagues and the neighbourhood community where Clarke was an active and enthusiastic participant for 25 years.

Clarke's family is forever grateful to his relatives, steadfast friends - especially Alla and Con, work colleagues, and his incredible caregivers during his illness.

I'm so sorry to hear of the sudden passing of my friend and colleague Clarke. I worked daily with Clarke for 17 years and we shared a lot of laughs, lunches and discussions about education, economics and music. We also shared a passion for teaching students about the world of business. Clarke loved teaching, even though he would always say the two best things about the profession were July and August! He also loved the Leafs and Jays, and he loved bringing a much needed smile to those around him. He will truly be missed at "Club MCI" as he would call it.

My sincere condolences to Ellen, Mike and family.

I can not believe I lost my best friend who became my family.
He was the heated, caring, loving, smart and fun person.
I will miss him forever.
My heart is broken .
My deepest condolences to his family.

Clarke was the first person Ken and I met as we were looking to buy a townhouse/condo in Etobicoke a number of years ago. He proudly showed us his home and all the remodeling he had done. We became friends and he often brought me plants and even resodded our small backyard. All you had to do to make him happy was offer him a Diet Pepsi or a trip to Costco. His “mission” every Spring was to get every dandelion out of our shared courtyard. He was going to retire last year, but I think he just couldn’t imagine not being with his students and teaching.
He will be missed. RIP Clarke.....love, Crystal
