In Celebration of

Claire Keane

February 24, 1932 -  April 28, 2021

(nee McCann)

In loving memory of Claire Keane who passed away peacefully at Cawthra Gardens Long Term Care Residence, Mississauga on Wednesday, April 28, 2021 in her 90th year. Cherished wife of the late James. Adored companion for over twenty years of Sidney Glew. Devoted mother of Kevin (Rosa), Brian (Christine), Paul (Denise), and Maeve (Scott) Ride. Beloved grandmother of Megan, James, Sean (Meagan), Kelsey, Noelle (Kevin), Natalie (Matthew), Declan, Bronson and Teagan. Much loved great-grandmother of Madelyn, Breanna, Juliana, Jaxon and Leo. Predeceased by her parents Peter and Mary. Remembered fondly by her siblings Seamus and Oliver. Predeceased by her sisters Maeve, Grace and Angela, and brothers Noel, Peadar and Greg.

Claire was devoted to her family, as well as an avid golfer and traveller. Having arrived in Canada from Ireland in 1954, she set out with James Keane to start a new life. Her first experiences with the wilds of Canada was Hurricane Hazel which may have caused her to reconsider her move. However, her love for her husband, James, was a bond that held them together through the good and challenging times. Their love and devotion was most evident in the raising of their 4 children. Claire developed a passion for golf. As spring approached each year, the eagerness to get out onto the golf course was evident. During the winter months, many enjoyable and memorable Myrtle Beach golf excursions occurred with brother Noel and sister-in-law Ann.

Unfortunately, difficult times hit with the passing of James in 1992. As devastated as Claire was, her Irish resilience and stoicism was strong. She met the challenges and developed her independence. Golfing and socializing with friends at Markland Wood Golf and Country Club was her focus for those years. During a dance at the golf club, Claire was introduced to Sid, who charmed Claire with his wit and dance moves. A new life started and love blossomed. In addition to their passion for golf, Claire and Sid lived life to the fullest, travelling the world together and enjoying time with their grandchildren.

Claire will be dearly missed and at this time we will celebrate her and keep her close in our hearts.

Of special note, the family would like to thank the Cawthra Gardens Long Term Care staff for their dedication and support of Claire during her final years.

In Claire’s memory, we will leave you with an Irish blessing:

‘May your troubles be less and your blessings be more,
And nothing but happiness come through your door!’

Due to the restrictions surrounding Covid-19, a private visitation and funeral will be held at Turner and Porter “Peel Chapel” (2180 Hurontario St.) Mississauga. In memory of Claire and in lieu of flowers, donations to Parkinson Canada would be much obliged.

My deepest sympathies and condolences go out to the entire Keane family. Mrs. Keane was a wonderful soul who got to know over my many years working at Markland Wood. Always positive and had a smile as I asked where how she played that day ! She will be sadly missed and privileged to have been able to spend a bit of time with her a few years back.
My thoughts and prayers going to the entire family.

Dear Maeve, Kevin, Brian and Paul,
My heartfelt sympathy on your loss. No matter how old we are when we lose our mum, we become her little child again and memories come surging back of better, happier times.
Hold into those precious memories, linger in your favorite times. They will give you strength and help you through this sad and lonely time.
Your mum and dad are together now.
May they both rest in peace.
Much love, Helen
