In Celebration of

Christina (Tina) Mary Francisco

June 14, 1973 -  March 3, 2023

It is with great sorrow that we announce Tina passed away peacefully and unexpectedly in her sleep on March 3, 2023. Devoted mother of Joshua and beloved daughter of Susan and Ronald Francisco. Cherished sister of Jennifer and Craig (Pat) and dear aunt and cousin to many. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Tina was a voracious reader from a young age which was fostered by her grandfather taking her to the Baysville library every day during summers at Echo lake. She continued her love of reading throughout her entire life and enjoyed many genres.

From an early age Tina had a keen interest in art and attended the Ontario College of Art and Design. At OCAD she developed an interest in writing, with a focus on poetry. Several of her poems have been published. Tina was a long-time editor at the literary magazine Descant. She was an active contributor, including co-editor of one volume. She also worked on a number of editorial projects.

Tina had a beautiful smile, great sense of humour, and she loved to make people laugh. Tina was fiercely loyal to her family and friends and treasured her time with all. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Visitation will be at Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor St. W., on Tuesday, March 14, 2023, 5-8 pm. The Funeral Service will be at Morningside-High Park Presbyterian Church, 4 Morningside Avenue, on March 15, 2023 at 11 am. There will be a reception at the church after the interment at Park Lawn cemetery.

If you would like to make a donation in Tina's memory, please do so to a charity of your choice.

Tina was a beloved editor at Descant magazine where she began as an editorial assistant in 2000 and continued as an Editor until the magazine closed in 2015.
For fifteen years, she was a bright light at the magazine, and an important member of the Editorial collective which met regularly to read, eat and of course to drink. The editorial collective was a fellowship and she was a key member of our group. Her warmth, her skill, her sense of humour, her kindness, her loveliness touched all: she will be missed forever.
Sending love to her family and all who knew her and loved her,
Karen Mulhallen, Editor-In-Chief, Descant magazine

We are all feeling a shocking and profound loss. We've lost a friend, a sister, an aunt.
We take what comfort we can from the memories we have and the lasting, beautiful impact she made on our lives.

I am shocked and saddened to hear of Tina's passing. With the amount of time I spent with the Fransciscos growing up, it sometimes felt like Tina was my little sister too. Tina was funny and bright and kept us on our toes. There is a big hole in our hearts but memories of her smile, kindness, and sense of humour will help ease our loss. Sending my love and deepest condolences to Jennifer, Sue, Ron, Craig, and all of Tina's family and friends.
