In Celebration of

Charles Sockett

February 6, 1938 -  November 23, 2025

It is with both sadness and gratitude for a life well-lived that the family of Charles Sockett announces his passing in the early morning hours of November 23, 2025, at the age of 87.

Charles is survived by his wife of 62 years, Helen, three children: Jennifer (Dave), Robert, and David, four grandchildren: Sophie, Jayden, Nathan and Ava, and many extended family and friends.

Charles was born in the small town of Durham, Ontario on February 6, 1938. His father, Charles, died in a plane crash before he was born. His mother, Wilma was left to raise him until the age of 6, when she married John Coutts, who loved young Charles dearly. A few years later, his sister Emily was born.

Charles spent his childhood as an avid reader, swimmer, and musician, eventually deciding on teaching as a career. In fact, he met his future wife Helen while attending teacher’s college. They married on April 15, 1963.

Charles and Helen raised three children, Jennifer, Robert, and David, in Mississauga. Despite a teacher’s salary, they gave their children a large home, lessons of every sort, a cottage, and trips, including the East and West coasts of Canada, and Europe. Together, they created a family of love, kindness, and generosity. They were members of Erindale Presbyterian Church for decades, Charles serving in the choir and as an Elder for many of those years.

In their retirement years, Charles and Helen travelled the world together, visiting China, Australia, Africa, Europe, Iceland, the United States, and Canada, among other places. Charles was much loved by his four grandchildren, Sophie, Jayden, Nathan, and Ava.

We are thankful to the staff of Mississauga Long Term Care Villa for looking after Charles so well during his final days.

Words cannot express how much we miss you.
