In Celebration of

Charles Edward Letman

July 6, 1932 -  January 18, 2025

It is with a heavy heart that we tell you of the passing of Charles (Charlie) Letman on Saturday, January 18, 2025. He had a long and happy life and will be sorely missed by his daughter, Carol Letman, her husband, Paul Scale and his two grandchildren, Matthew and Jessica.

Charlie was pre-deceased by his wife Jeanette (nee Fink) in 1990 and his partner Barbara Doyle in 2014. He was the last surviving Letman of his generation, as his three brothers, Victor,Edward and Donald, and his sister Marlene Judge, have all passed on. His several nieces and nephews remember him fondly and ‘Uncle Charlie’ was always a popular figure at family get-togethers.

Charlie was born in Kenora, and moved to Bellevile in 1950, where he met and married Jeannette in 1953. The two of them with their infant daughter, Carol, moved to Etobicoke in 1955 where the family lived for many years. Charlie eventually moved to Mississauga in the late 1990s. Although he started out as a Food Safety Inspector with the Township of Etobicoke, most of his career was with the provincial government. In 1963 he started with the Ontario Water Resources Commission which later became part of the Ministry of the Environment and he stayed there until his retirement in 1990. He kept himself active, coaching the Ministry hockey team, refereeing minor football in Etobicoke, playing and organizing golf tournaments and volunteering with United Way, Erinoak and other charities over the years. Charlie was an active member of the Mimico Masonic Lodge, serving in many roles over the years and eventually was awarded a Grand Stewardship. He loved to travel and most years saw him visiting some new location around the world, especially on a cruise ship.

His smiling face and cheerful nature will be remembered by all he touched over the years. He was a loving husband, partner, father and grandfather. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Extendicare Brampton who took good care of him over the past year.

Visitation will be at the Turner and Porter Funeral Home, Thursday January 30, 2025 from 5-9PM.

Celebration of Life will be held on Friday January 31 at 3Pm in Turner & Porter Peel Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, the family would be grateful for any donations in Charlie’s memory to be
made to Participation House Markham.

Over the years I have always noticed Charles at Sunday morning services when I have been able to attend as a warm an welcoming member of the congregation. While not close friends it was always always nice to see his happy face and exchange a few words.

Bruce Boyd (Football Official)

Entered January 29, 2025 from Etobicoke

For several years, Charlie and I were officials in the Eatonville Minor Football League at Centennial park in Etobicoke. He was a terrific official and a great guy to work with. I have many fond memories of those long (3 games!) Saturday mornings, through rain, shine, heat or cold.
I will not be able to attend the visitation nor the service but I wanted you to know that I consider myself blessed to have known Charlie as a friend and colleague.
Please accept my heartfelt condolences.
