Catherine Kent

May 26, 1939 -  September 21, 2025

Catherine Mary Kent (nee Flynn) passed away peacefully on September 21, 2025, in her 87th year. Loving wife of E. Gordon (passed away in 2012), mother to Peter (Jane), Maureen, Elaine, and Sandra (Michael). Loving Nana to Gregg (Kristine), Douglas (Brittany), Matthew (Eva), Meagan (Richard), David (Kristen), Mark (Giselle), Stephanie and Mathieu (Lana).

Loving Nanana to Jackson, Beau, Evan, Taylor, James and Nora.

Sister to Ann (Gilbert -d), Margo (Bern), Bryan, Roderick, Bill – d (Veronica), Michael – d (Anna – d) and Jerome -d.

Sister in Law to Don (Ursula), Robert -d (Kate – d), Marguerite – d (Doug -d), Joan -d (Lynn -d) and Myles-d (Carol).

Born on Bell Island, Newfoundland to Tom and Lucy Flynn on May 26, 1939. The oldest of 8 children. There she met the love of her life, Gordon. They married and soon 4 children arrived and they moved to Toronto – the Lakeshore. Catherine was a teacher at St. Teresa’s Catholic School in New Toronto for 35 years. She loved teaching and fondly reminisced about many of her students over the years.

She was a wonderful mother who had a quiet strength and was resilient throughout her life. The role she loved the most was being Nana to her grandchildren. Her pride and joy – 6 of them attended St. Teresa’s under her wing where she could keep a close eye on them. These special relationships continued throughout her life.

Over the last few years, she enjoyed watching her family grow with 6 greatgrandchildren.

She will be missed. We know that her faith has been her strength throughout her life and she is watching us all with love from up above.

Catherine was a great sister-in-law and a wonderful friend.
After Gordon and Bill passed ( Dec. 2012) we talked every week or two depending on what was going on.
We both loved gardening and books so we always had lots to talk about.
We always had something to discuss when we talked even for a few minutes. She was a great friend.
I will miss her dearly.
Enjoy heaven Catherine. You will be missed by all who knew you. Rest in Peace my friend.

I often think of Mrs Kent, who held us to a high standard and helped us learn resilience and empathy. I remember doing ParticipAction with her, her reading Beverly Cleary’s books to us. So many very fond memories. Rest in peace ❤️

Thank you, Mrs. Kent, for your patience and the impact you had for me and all your former students. You made a bigger difference than you probably ever realized. My condolences to the family.
