In Celebration of

Camille Kanhai, L.L.B. MTI TEP

August 8, 1956 -  September 4, 2019

Peacefully at home with her family by her side after a courageous struggle with ALS. Camille was a wonderful wife and best friend to Kevin Palin and loving and devoted mother to David and Kara. She is survived by her mother Rabia Rahamut and her brother Ahmed (Fareda), sister Wendy and her niece Adara all of Trinidad. Camille will always be cherished by Kevin’s children Heather Bilanzola and Geoff Palin. She will be sadly missed by all her family, friends and neighbours. Camille was born and raised in San Fernando Trinidad and attended university in the UK before returning home to graduate with a law degree from the University of the West Indies in Barbados. She moved to Canada in 1980’s to start a new life and family becoming an astute wills and estate lawyer who guided many families with tax and estate issues in her role with National Bank and Scotiabank. She also excelled in her role as a Montessori teacher at Toronto Montessori School in Richmond Hill during the years that her children were growing up. She loved nature and exploring new places and traveling to many different countries. Camille was kind and gentle soul that we will dearly miss. The family will receive friends at the Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel 2357 Bloor Street West (near the Jane subway) on Wednesday September 11th, from 2:00 pm until Service in the Chapel at 3:00 o'clock. Private family interment will take place at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Special thanks to Sarah Reedman and all the team at the ALS Clinic at Sunnybrook Hospital for their incredible support and care and to her dear friend Joanne Mckay for her gracious kindness and to all her friends who faithfully came to visit Camille. Your visits brought so much joy to her heart. As expressions of sympathy please consider a donation to The ALS Society of Canada 393 University Avenue, Suite 1701, Toronto M5G 1E6 or to Camille’s favourite charity CAMH Foundation 100 Stokes Street, 5th floor, Bell Gateway Building Toronto On M6H 1H4

Camille, thank you for your smile that brought so much happiness to all of us.

Condolences to the family and friends of Camile who will miss her bright smile, her lively spirit and her love of life. May the memories you share with each other soften the sadness of her loss in your lives.

To Kevin, David, Kara and the rest of Camille's family, I am so very sorry for your loss. I worked closely with Camille for several years when we were both Will & Estate Planners at Scotiatrust. Camille was well liked by both clients and employees at Scotia and I especially appreciated her friendship and support. I remember her "talking me down" after my boys' first day of JK (they are now 18) when I said I was going to home school them. I was so pleased Camille and I remained in touch after we moved on to other jobs. I will always remember her smile and her warmth.

I had the pleasure of meeting Camille when she started working at National Bank. As a matter of fact, I was one of the people who interviewed her for the position. I liked her immediately and although we started out as colleagues, we became close friends. I will always cherish the many mornings we spent chatting about our lives over a cup of tea.

Although I miss Camille as a colleague, I miss my friend the most. Her kindness, warmth and genuine and beautiful smile will always resonate in my heart. She always wisdom to share and kind words to brighten your day. The world has lost a kind, loving, generous and gentle soul. You will be missed my dear friend.
