In Celebration of

Bruce Winston Bagley

October 5, 1934 -  April 20, 2019

Bruce Winston Bagley, with his immediate family by his side, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2019, at the age of 84 in New York City.

He now will join his first wife, Donna (nee: Bradshaw) and second wife Elizabeth (Nee: Horsman), parents Winston Weir and Nancy (Nee: Farrow), other family members and friends who have passed before him. He leaves behind children Kim (Scott Johnson) and Brian (Craig MacLennan); sister Norma McGuire and nieces and nephews Susan, Beth, Bryan McGuire and Leanne and Adam Horsman; goddaughters Lou Ann and Mary Kae Best; and, of course, his beloved grandchildren Jack and Kate Johnson.

Bruce lived most of his life in Toronto, mainly in Etobicoke, a city he dearly loved, and went to Oakwood Collegiate where he was a valued member of their hockey team. He became a drafting teacher at George Harvey, where he was also their hockey coach, and later taught at York Humber High School. He spent his spare time throughout his career volunteering for the Oakwood Alumni Association and playing for the Precinct’s Men’s Softball team. In his retirement years, he volunteered at the Christ the King Anglican Church and loved spending time and traveling with Elizabeth and his family. In the last decade, he moved to New York City’s Upper West Side to live near his grandchildren and continued his travels to Asia, Europe and the Caribbean.

Bruce was blessed with the gift of authentic and unwavering kindness. At the end he was beyond rich in the only currency that ever really matters: happiness. In the opinion of his family, if life were a game – he won. Loved by many, respected by all.

Friends may call at the Turner & Porter Butler Chapel, 4933 Dundas St. W., Etobicoke (between Kipling and Islington Aves.) between 2:00~4:00 & 6:00~8:00 pm on Thursday April 25th. Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Friday April 26th, 2019 at 11:00 a.m., followed by a reception and then Interment at Glendale Memorial Gardens for immediate family and close friends.

For those who wish, donations may be made to the Hockey Canada Foundation that enables low income and new Canadians access to the great sport of hockey.

We have lost a great man and teacher. Bruce was one of the kindest man I have ever met. Always willing to help someone. Well liked by students and staff as well. He had a smile for everyone.

I am sort to hear this sad news. Please extend my sincere sympathy to all of Bruce’s family. Norman Hunter and Bruce worked together for many years and shared their knowledge, experience and enthusiasm for technical education Norm had the utmost respect for Bruce and his approach to the art of teaching all of their technical students. I had the pleasure of working with Bruce at George Harvey and York Humber. He was also my brother’s teacher at George Harvey.

The last time I saw Bruce was at the last York Humber reunion and spent so time chatting. He even asked how my brother was doing. He was truly a wonderful person.

I am unable to be at the visitation as I am out of the country. My deepest condolences to all.

Thank you Bruce for your comforting demeanor and welcoming smile. Whether it was in the halls, the staffroom or the rink you brightened up my day.

I am sorry I can’t attend the service. I am out of the country, but I want to let you know that Bruce was one of the kindest, most patient and gentle people I have ever met. He was so good we the students, I often thought he deserved a medal for perseverance. I will always remember him.
