In Celebration of

Brigitta Schneider

October 17, 1934 -  November 4, 2023

With great sadness we announce that Brigitte passed away after a long, hard-fought battle with dementia on November 4th, 2023, at the age of 89.

Loving wife of (the late) Friedrich for 55 years. Cherished Mother of Georg (Ann), Barbara (David) and Annemarie (the late Brian). Proud Oma/Grandmother of Laurel (Wesley), Adam, Scott (Kathryn) and Ashley (Kevin). Great-Grandmother of Kayla, Lilly, David, Jack and William. Deeply missed by her younger sister Anneliese, along with many family members and friends in Canada and Germany.

Brigitte was born in the small town of Hohenlimburg, Germany to parents Anna and Anton Mueting. She later met the love of her life, Friedrich, when he walked into the bakery where she worked in the same small town, and they were married in May 1956. As they started their young family, they moved a short distance away to the city of Bochum. In early 1961, they emigrated to Canada (by ship) and lived for a couple of years in Mimico. In late 1963, the family moved to Cawthra Road in what would become the town and later city of Mississauga.

Brigitte and Friedrich (Fred) settled in, learned a new language, made lifelong friends and actively participated in their community, as well as singing in the choir and serving in other ministries at St. Dominic’s Church. They became proud Canadians and helped many in need come to this great land.

Brigitte was happiest when surrounded by family and friends, and feeding them. No one left hungry. Dessert was always awesome, and she was an amazing baker. There was always lots of love and laughter.

Mutti, in these last few years, we tried to bring the loving party to you. We surrounded you with your people and lots of food, pictures, music and family traditions. We missed your laughter, but hope you felt the love! We believe we saw it in your eyes.

The family would very much like to thank Dr. Clive, Dr. Reynoso, Dr. Tang and Dr. Deppisch but especially all the incredible staff at Silverthorn Care Community for their dedicated care, and for thinking of her as family.

The celebration of Brigitte’s life will begin with a visitation on Wednesday, November 22nd,2023 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Turner & Porter Peel Chapel, 2180 Hurontario St., Mississauga (Hwy. 10, North of the Q.E.W.) and will continue with her Memorial Mass on Thursday, November 23rd, 2023 at 11 a.m. at St. Dominic’s Roman Catholic Church (625 Atwater Ave., Mississauga) followed by a gathering in the church hall.

Entombment will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery Port Credit, 2099 Dickson Rd.

For those who wish, donations in Brigitte’s memory may be made to the Trillium Health Partners - Credit Valley Hospital by using the donation link at the bottom of this page and selecting "In Memory Gift". All donations in her name will be directed to: Seniors Services – Outpatient Memory Clinic.

Thank you , aunt Brigitte, for being an important person in my life. I won't forget the times we talked and laughed a lot during my first stay in Canada in1976!
I'm also happy we met again this summer even if it was for the last time. Your eyes were open when Heiner and I visited you in July. That made me happy !

In loving memory
