In Celebration of

Bill Cheshire

December 18, 1944 -  December 19, 2024

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of William “Bill” Cheshire. He left this world on December 19, 2024, at the age of 80, due to complications from heart surgery. He was surrounded by his loving family by his side. We will always remember his smile, warmth, generosity and jovial sense of humour.

He is survived by his wife of almost 55 years, Joan Cheshire, and his loving children Greg (Larisa), Kevin (Meggie) and Carolyn (Brian) and by his seven grandchildren Norah, Emily, Ally, Tommy, Sammy, Abigail and Ben.

Bill was born in Wiarton, Ontario on December 18, 1944. He remembered fondly growing up on the Bruce Peninsula with his parents Delena and Hubert Cheshire and his sisters Mary Brough and Janet Couch. An excellent student, he enjoyed the Ivey Business School at Western University and a long career in Human Resources with various companies.

He was involved in many charities and Boards, enjoyed volunteering at The Compass Food Bank, helped in local government issues, the Federation of Ontario Cottagers’ Associations and many other organizations. He had a great love of history and music. His family appreciated his extensive history of the family in the Bruce Peninsula and the work he did on writing down these memories and cataloging pictures.

Family was the most important thing to Bill. Some of his fondest memories were with his family at the cottage at Baptiste Lake. He greatly enjoyed his days there, going for long walks, swimming, reading, working around the cottage and visits with grandchildren and friends.

For those who wish to honour Bill’s memory, donations can be made to The Compass Mississauga food bank using the "Make a Donation" link at the bottom of this page.

Bill will be deeply missed by all of those who knew and loved him. There will be a Memorial Service February 8th, 2025 at 1pm at Kingsway Lambton United Church, followed by a Reception and Visitation from 2:15-4:30 pm.

The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

Dear Joan,

The terrific picture of Bill says it all. What a wonderful face. A face of kindness and strength. A face of intelligence. A face of fun. We will miss the man behind the face, Joan. Ann and I are so grateful to have enjoyed the friendship of both of you throughout our own married lives. I remember meeting Bill at the cottage somewhere around 1968 - a couple of years ago. We have been friends ever since.

We are confident, Joan, that you are safe in the protective hands of your loving family. During your journey, Bill, remember that distinct Baptiste scent of cedars , and the delicious smell of poplar leaves in the water every fall. Be confident that we will all meet again. God bless...............Fred and Ann

We were so saddened to hear of Bill's passing. Our prayers are with Joan and the family. Bill was a great friend, neighbour and fellow cottager. There are so many memories from walking with our children around the neighbourhood at Halloween, to parties, sharing memories and stories. Bill's smile was infectious and sharing common interests was a big part of the friendship. We will miss you Bill.
