In Celebration of

Beverley Jane nee (McLaughlin) Carty

April 19, 1950 -  February 7, 2023

Born - April 19, 1950 eldest daughter of the late Marjorie and Ted McLaughlin of Etobicoke.

Survived by her loving husband Bill Carty and precious children Ted Carty (Heather), Erin Gauthier (Fraser) and Kelly Collier(Mike), her beautiful granddaughters, Ella Carty, Katie Carty and Frankie Collier.
Also left behind are her dear sisters Cathie Theriault and Kerri Pols. Beverley passed away on Feb 7, 2023 after a short but courageous battle with cancer. Born at High Park and Bloor, Bev, as a little girl, remembers playing on Bloor St at Windermere in front of her dad’s restaurant (Ted’s Steak and Shake). She also had vivid memories as a four year old with her mother being rescued from an over turned car in the midst of Hurricane Hazel.

The family moved to Etobicoke in 1957 to a new home near Hwy 27 and Burnhamthorpe. There she grew up to be a beautiful, fun loving teenager and in 1969 went to Carleton University to pursue a career in Journalism. It was there she met Bill, they were married in 1972. In the middle of her university years Bev got the opportunity to work for the Telegram joining Frank Drea’s Action Line team. She put university on hold saying you don’t pass up a chance like that.

After the Tely closed down suddenly in 1971 Bev returned to Ottawa to work in the news room of the CTV affiliate CJOH. There she enjoyed the excitement and the characters that made it one of the most watched evening news broadcast in Easter Ontario. One of her most exciting experiences was being part of the news team that accompanied PM Pierre Trudeau to Washington to meet then President Nixon in the White House. Bev also worked in production at Bushnell Communications (owners of CJOH) and could entertain everyone with inside stories about such notables as the Galloping Gourmet, The Amazing Kreskin and Willie and Floyd.

In 1975 Bev and Bill started a family beginning with Ted, followed by twin daughters Erin and Kelly in 1978. Bev would devote herself full time to her children until they were all well entrenched in school, and after moving back to Toronto in 1987 she set off on a career in computer equipment sales eventually spear heading a top notch inside sales team that managed multimillion dollar programs with the likes of Ontario Hydro and Ontario Government. In the topsy tervy dotcom days Bev claimed to have worked for five different companies in five years due to buyouts but never moved her desk.

Despite her many work achievements her proudest accomplishment was raising three beautiful and talented children. Their achievements warmed her heart, her three granddaughters have brought her abounding joy, to Beverley family was everything.
Bev will also be missed dearly by many brothers and sisters in-law as well as over 60 nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Bev loved to entertain and often said she should have Golden Arches over her doorway with a sign that said “Welcome to Bev’s Bar and Grill”. To her countless friends and relatives she has announced her final last call.

A special thank you to Dr. Pei Pei Zheng, all the nurses and staff of the 6th Floor Palliative Care Unit of Trillium Health Partner for their tireless dedication and overwhelming compassion in our family's time of need.

Visitation will be held at Turner & Porter Peel Chapel (2180 Hurontario St, Mississauga) on Friday, February 24, 2023 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm.
