BETTE JUNE Barrett Esch (nee Tash, Johns) passed away peacefully in her 95th year, on Tuesday, September 2, 2025. Beloved wife of the late Norman Esch. Cherished mother of Bruce (recently deceased), Larry (Barb) and Scott (Lee). Much loved grandmother of Stephanie (Jeff) and Andrew (Erica) and great grandmother of Blakely, Austin, Wes, Navy. Dear sister of Norma Pearce (nee McFadden) (deceased). Loving aunt to Doug, David, Marilyn and Wayne and their wonderful spouses.
Bette lived a long, full life, enjoying travel in her later years with husband Norm and socializing with their many friends. And Bette had a lot of friends! Born to Roy and Edna Tash, Bette spent the first part of her life in the Kingsway where she met and married David Johns (father of Bruce). David was tragically killed and Bette later married Ted Barrett (father of Larry and Scott).
Bette made life long friends wherever she went. She treasured her many years at the cottage on Balsam Lake and her early years in Scarborough where she was a volunteer with May Court Canada. Bette spent most of her life in Don Mills. She belonged to the Granite Club and the Hunt and Rosedale Club with husband Norm where many family occasions were enjoyed. Bette was an avid card player and belonged to several bridge clubs.
Bette’s life can be best defined by her unwavering devotion to her family and friends. She loved all her family dearly and was a great mom, grandmother and sister. She will be loved and missed dearly.
Friends may call at the Old Mill (Victoria Room) for a Celebration of Life Service on Tuesday September 9th from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., to celebrate both Bette and Bruce. A special thank you to the caregivers at Greenview Seniors Residence for their care of Bette in her final years. No donations of any kind are being requested on Bette’s behalf.
