In Celebration of

Beryl (Billie) Irene Wilson (nee Hendry)

March 20, 1924 -  June 20, 2021

Billie passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, June 20 at Parkland on the Glen. She was predeceased by her loving husband Harold in 2014. She was also predeceased by her siblings Betty Francis, Robert Porter, Donalda Vondette, and Boyd Hendry. She is survived by her sisters Sylvia Fogarty (John) and Judy Montgomery and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews of the Hendry and Wilson families. She grew up in the east end of Toronto and attended Duke of Connaught School and Malvern Collegiate. Billie served in the Women’s Army Corps from March 4th, 1943 to November 5th, 1945 where she attained the rank of Corporal. During this time Billie trained to be a Mechanical Draftsman, she spent her entire career working in this profession. Billie was very active in the United Church and taught the CGIT girls for many years. She was a member of the IODE and loved to play bridge. We would like to thank her Minister Jim Cairney for all his love and caring over the years. Also thanks to the staff at Parkland for their care over the past several years. One other person that Billie would have wanted to be mentioned is her niece Susan. For the last 5 years Susan has looked after her Aunt Billie … health, financial, groceries, and all the odds and ends. Billie said so many times she couldn’t imagine what she would do without her. Susan was her angel. A small family funeral will take place on Saturday, June 26th. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated. A Celebration of Life will be scheduled in the future.

I was saddened to receive news of Billie’s death and extend my sincere sympathy to Susan and other members of Billie’s extended family. I became acquainted with Billie at Christ Church; we shared a love for CGIT and enjoyed reminiscing about our experiences. For many years Harold and Billie were faithfully in the front pew on Sunday mornings, then Billie on her own until she was no longer able to attend. I enjoyed visits with her at Parkland on the Glen before the pandemic and appreciated hearing her stories of her early life and life with Harold. She will be missed.

Susan and family - Please accept my heartfelt condolences on your loss. I have fond memories of Billie being 'my' CGIT leader at Christ Church and of good times shared (along with Billie's mom) in Clarkson Billie was an extraordinary woman.

She was my favourite aunt and role model. She is why I became a draftsman too. The end of an era.

I have known Billie for many years. It has been my pleasure to visit Billie while she has been a resident at Parkland on the Glen, where she felt well cared for at this facility. I will miss our visits and was sorry to be unable to visit recently due to the lock down, although we connected by telephone over the last few months.

With my sincere sympathy,
Jane Rodd
