In Celebration of

Benjamin Lloyd Thompson

October 19, 1925 -  November 20, 2023

Born and raised in Jamaica, Ben arrived in Montreal in 1945 to study medicine at McGill and never left Canada.

His great intellect led to him being assigned the position of Chief of Surgery at St. Mary’s Hospital while in Montreal (1970s), as well as to him creating surgical departments in the Ontario towns of Cochrane (late 50s, early 60s) and Kincardine (80s and 90s).

With his late, much-loved wife Barbara (nee Foley), he raised two children, Maureen and Greg. He died in his sleep shortly after learning that his beloved Montreal Alouettes had just won the Grey Cup.

A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Messages for the family can be left at www.turnerporter.ca.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favourite charity.

To Ben,s children;
My sympathy on the death of your father.He was a true gentleman and a wonderful surgeon.We were so lucky to have him for the years that he spent in Kincardine.He was also my father,s family doctor.
I saw his death notice in the Toronto Star.

I enjoyed my years of working with our "Gentle Ben" at Kincardine & District General Hospital. He was much loved and respected. Even a gracious host when we invaded his house one Hallowe'en. Rest in peace, dear friend. Eleanor

Dr Thompson was the most gentle, softest spoken, well loved, dedicated surgeon!
He did several of my surgeries and so caring both before and after the procedure!
I have often wondered how he was during the years since he moved to Toronto, driving by his former residence would bring him to mind!
RIP Dr Thompson, you have earned your Eternal Rest.
Thank you from all your former patients in Kincardine area.
Sincerely, Joan Hartwick
