In Celebration of

Barbara McLenaghen

April 21, 1926 -  January 9, 2022

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Barbara Maude Mclenaghen (nee Leaney) in her 95th year on Sunday, January 9th, 2022 at the RVH in Barrie. Loving wife of the late Newman Mclenaghen, Beloved mother of Jim, Dougie (predeceased), John (Josee), and Joanne (Brad).
Cherished grandmother to Thomas, Jessica, Evan, and Jackie-Anne. Our Mom Barb was born in Winnipeg, MB, married in Thunder Bay and moved to Toronto in 1966 to a beautiful new home on the golf course in Markland Woods, Etobicoke. Barb and Newman were one of the first new members of Markland Wood Golf Club and Barb lived 51 amazing years at their Golf Valley Lane home. Barb was close with all her neighbours and had many close friends in Markland Woods. Barb taught Sunday school at our church, was a pink lady at our hospital and delivered meals on wheels. She always wanted to give back to the community she lived in. Barb loved to entertain and host bridge parties at her home. She enjoyed golfing and supported the Golf Club right from the beginning. Our family went to the Golf Club for dinner for every special occasion that we had over the years. Barb was a housewife and mother and she did it with style and grace. She loved to sit in her blue living room with dad, put the records on and share a drink together at the end of a day. Barb adored all the grandchildren and had a special bond with each one of them. Barb always made a huge fuss with all of us for birthdays, and especially Christmas, she loved Christmas. Barb was a lady and always made sure she was dressed well, hair nice, makeup and always wearing her pearls. She took so much pride in her appearance and people always commented on that. Barb loved her family more than we can say, she had a wonderful full life and touched many people along the way. Barb was the last one standing so, as they saying goes, we saved the BEST FOR LAST. A Private Family Celebration of Mom’s Life will be held in the spring of 2022 with Interment at the Riverside Cemetery. If desired, Donations may be made in memory of Barbara Mclenaghen to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or Sick Kids of Toronto.

Duncan and Donna Coutts (Cousin)

Entered January 13, 2022 from Carp

YBarb was my first cousin and yet, despite our difference in age, enjoyed talking for hours about the history of the Coutts family and current events. We always chuckled about the fact that my Dad was her Uncle and in the same class at school.  Many years later, I remember sitting in your Mom's living room and enjoying a pre-dinner cocktail while we (i.e Jim and I) cooked Venison for dinner. The conversation never stopped while music played in the background. She was a real trooper and went along with the menu without any complaints.  Barb was an elegant lady with grace and sophistication, but also a warmth that made anyone feel welcome. To Jim Joanne, John and family, may the memories of happy times bring you solace during this difficult period. Rest in Peace Bobby.
