In Celebration of

Barbara Jane Maize

June 2, 1925 -  October 8, 2023

Barbara passed away peacefully at Christie Gardens October 8 in her 99th year.

Married for 68 wonderful years to her beloved husband Bill who passed away in 2018. Much loved mother of John (Margaret Rand), Jeff (Jill Maize) and Andy (Andrea Nann.) “Darling” Grandmother of Andrew (Halley), Will (Gabi), Sam (Kate), Laura (Dan), John (Tamara) and Owen. Great Grandmother of Jonah and Woody. Predeceased by granddaughter Chi Lin.

Barbara grew up in Toronto and Cobourg, Ontario. After graduating from the University of Toronto she became a Phys Ed teacher and taught at Brampton High School. Barbara and Bill were married in 1950 and began a life of great adventure living in and around Toronto including stints in Vancouver and Montreal.

Barbara was an active mother in supporting her sons’ school, sports, music and extracurricular activities. Barbara enjoyed hosting and attending parties and social events and had an amazing repertoire of jokes that kept things lively. Barbara had many good friends in many parts of Canada and indeed in many countries. She was also an accomplished dancer (and tap dancer!) and kept her tap shoes in action for many years. Barbara also loved chocolate and noisy children’s toys.

Cremation has taken place and interment to follow. The family thank the fabulous team at Christie Gardens for their care and support over the last few years. A celebration of Barbara’s life will be held at a future date.

If desired, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.

My condolences to the family.
My connection with Barb predates her marriage to Bill.
It was a rich friendship that lasted right to her years at Christie Gardens.
I will miss her.
My mother, a recent widow, offered Barb lodging when she came to Brampton from Victoria College to teach at Brampton High School.
I was in my early teens at that time.
Those memories are precious to me.

Dear John, Jeff, and Andy, We're so sorry to hear of your mother's passing. Barb and our mum, Jean, were good friends throughout their lives -- first in Cobourg as teenagers and then in Toronto and Montreal.

Your mum was always the life of the party, and we enjoyed her sense of humour.

Our mother passed away last October 27th in Montreal. She was also 98.

Please accept our condolences.
