In Celebration of

Barbara Ames

January 16, 1936 -  November 1, 2021

Barbara Mildred Ames passed away peacefully in her daughter’s home on November 1st at the age of 85. Family and friends were by her side throughout her last days. Our loss is immeasurable but so is the love she left behind.

Loving mother of David Makin (Christine Panowyk), Kelly Makin (Janet Cuddy), and Jo Anne Kittell. Cherished grandmother to Jake Makin, Colby Makin, Samantha (Sam) Kittell, Maxwell (Max) Kittell, Adeline Makin, Lillian Makin, Lexie Makin and Spencer Makin.

Barb was born in Winnipeg to Victor Ames and Violet Phillips. She was the youngest of five girls, Shirley Chapman (Ron), Pat Horrocks (Herb), Irene Hepburn (Miller) and Jo Kennedy (Don).

She was known as Aunty Barb and will be missed by many nieces and nephews.

We were told by many people Barbara is a “special woman” for her kind gestures and caring nature. She made friends everywhere she went creating lasting bonds no matter where she lived.

Barb expressed “I have had a good life” many times after she was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer. She enjoyed life and had many adventures after her divorce from her husband Harry Makin. They remained close and never stopped loving each other.

The family would like to thank the many PSW’s that cared for their mother, the wonderful nurse that was at her side when she passed and the many doctors that assisted her over the last year. We could not have asked for a more compassionate and kinder team of health care professionals.

Barb’s wishes were to be cremated and the immediate family will have a small gathering at a later date.

As an expression of sympathy, donations to Covenant House and the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.

Oh, how I miss my dear friend Barb. Even though we lived far, far apart we never lost touch through the years. We had so many fun adventures together, and our regular and frequent phone conversations were filled with memories and laughter, and always ended with, Love you gal.
