Passed away peacefully at Kipling Acres Long-Term Care Home in his 98th year. Loving husband of Jean (Taylor) and father of Steven (Gerry Wiggett), Teri (Rick Lennon), Glenn and Kim (Bob Freestone); grandfather of Valerie, Heather, James and Michael. Great-grandfather of Jude, Jay and Ava.
Born in Sussex Corner, New Brunswick, Dad grew up on a dairy farm during the Depression, together with sisters Audrey, Irene and Ferne, and brother Ken. He enlisted in the army at age 18 and received basic training in Fredericton. He was then sent to Camp Shilo, Manitoba and qualified as a paratrooper in March 1945 and volunteered for the War in the Pacific (WW2). During his service he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant.
Dad graduated from the University of New Brunswick with a degree in electrical engineering and was hired by Ontario Hydro in Toronto in July 1950.
In 1953, Dad married Jean Taylor at Humbercrest United Church. He left Ontario Hydro in 1963 to work for Canadian Hoosier Engineering on the electrical side of a tubewell drainage project in southern Pakistan. The family joined him in Pakistan in early 1964, and lived there until 1967. We then returned to the Toronto area where Dad rejoined Ontario Hydro. In 1968, Dad and Mom bought a house in Etobicoke (Markland Wood), where they lived until 2015.
Dad was a hard-working man known by all as someone who always saw the best in everyone he met, and who truly believed in neighbourliness, helping others wherever he could, and never expecting anything in return. Very devoted to his church, Bloordale United, Dad also volunteered with many charities, among them the Heart and Stroke Foundation. He played ice hockey and golf into his 70’s. Unfortunately, in his later years he was confined to a wheelchair, but still managed to shovel snow from the driveway, and do gardening for his church, on hands and knees until the age of 86.
In his last years, Dad enjoyed living at Scarlett Heights Retirement Residence and Kipling Acres Long-Term Care Home, with God’s blessing. The Mosher family wishes to thank the staff at Kipling Acres for their care and kindness to Dad for the past four and a half years.
A memorial service will be held at Bloordale United Church at 4258 Bloor Street West, Etobicoke, at 2 PM on Friday April 26th. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Heart and Stoke Foundation would be appreciated.
