Tony Hughes, age 77, of Mississauga, ON passed away May 17th after a battle with pneumonia.
Tony was born in Oldham, England on November 20th, 1945. He spent most of his early years in his hometown of Burnley, Lancashire where he obtained a degree in mechanical engineering before gaining an apprenticeship at Rolls Royce Aerospace, leading to his career as a tool and die maker. His hometown also inspired his lifelong passion for Burnley FC. Seeking adventure, he moved to Canada in 1971 at age 25, where he eventually met and married Faunie Quinn on June 7th, 1975. Although the relationship wasn't permanent, they remained friends afterward. A loving father and grandfather, he enjoyed reading, especially fantasy and science fiction, relaxing with a good cigar and the occasional glass of brandy while still finding time to hit the gym and keep himself in shape. Most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends. He had a dry sense of humour and quick wit and made everyone around him laugh. He will be fondly remembered and sorely missed.
Tony is predeceased by his parents Harry and Phyllis. He is survived by his beloved children Vanessa and Matthew, cherished grandson Nathaniel and countless friends, including his dear longtime friends Harold and Pat Frazer.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Trillium Health Partners.
