Leo Di Paola (Son)

Tonino as he was affectionately called, was born in Italy on March 21, 1932. He was orphaned and never knew his mother Michelina. She died when he was only a few months old – his father Leonardo died when Tonino was only two. Raised by his grandfather and later his aunts, my dad was a handsome blue eyed curly haired young man who grew up during World War II and the worst economic depression that followed for southern Italy. Trained to cut hair from the age of six, Antonio was street smart and very social with a passion and skill with games especially playing cards.
He married his next door neighbor sweet heart – our mom Rosa and they took a ship across the Atlantic to start a new life in Canada. Dad always cut hair – even won an award as a hairstylist – to provide for his family. He was a Toronto business owner and knew both the famous and ordinary of the city, but his passion was his family. Our dad taught us the value of family – and poured out his love on us all. He was in love with his grandkids and blessed to see his great grandson. Our dad exemplified a good, good father – always wanting the best for his kids, a model that each of us have taken to heart in our own homes.
Despite the illness of the past few years, dad will always be in our memories as a good and compassionate man carrying deeply for his family, his friends and everyone he encountered.
We will miss him deeply, but we look forward to seeing him again one day in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ, in perfect health and exceedingly happy.
