In Celebration of

Anton Sertic

February 15, 1938 -  March 18, 2021

It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our dear father Anton Sertic on Thursday, March 18th, 2021 at the age of 83 at Trillium Health Centre in Toronto.

He leaves behind his loving wife Maria of 59 years. He will be dearly missed by his son Joe and daughter Diane, son-in-law Paul and grandchildren Dejzana and Kijana. He will also be missed by his sisters Kaja and Josipa, sister-in-law Rose, his nieces Eva and Vanessa and extended families.
He was born in Podolopaca, Lika, Croatia on February 15th 1938. He emigrated to Canada and married the love of his life, Maria in 1961. Together they created a beautiful family and provided a strong foundation for them to live life with integrity and kindness to one another. Anton’s main joy was the children and he spent many hours teaching them right from wrong. His infectious personality captured the hearts of many. He was full of life and never missed an opportunity to welcome everyone into his home.
Our father’s passion was mathematics, wood and building. Friends and family knew they could rely on him when they came to ask for help. He taught us that there was always a solution and never a problem and that you can overcome many challenges without ever giving up. He was honest and very hard working taking on all sorts of projects. He was a true leader who inspired and a mentored all ages. He spent countless hours teaching those who wanted to learn from him.
He met each day with a smile and he loved the outdoors, especially walking in the forest around the cottage in the early morning. For those who knew him, knew him as a strong brave man full of life. He was best described by all his friends as the most generous and loving human who would do anything to help anyone at any time. He had an incredible impact on his immediate family and all his friends. He has truly touched the hearts of many people and he will always be remembered as the most caring, wonderful selfless man who gave with his heart.
Our father gave us the greatest gift that anyone can give and that was to teach us to live our life with integrity, compassion and love for all. His love encompassed the community.
We love our beautiful Dida and he will be in our hearts forever.
Mi volimo te puno i nikad te zaboraviti necemo!
Neka te Majka Bozija cuvaj i primi u svoje sircej za uvjek!
May you rest in Peace!

If desired; in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in memory of Anton to Sick Kids or to Trillium Health Partners Stroke Unit or any Croatian Church Charity of your choice.

Diane, Joe and Mrs. Sertic:

There are no words that I can offer that will make this hurt go away. Anton was an incredibly generous and loving man. He filled our lives with so much joy and laughter. He will be deeply missed but often remembered.
Please accept our sincere condolences and may God help you get through this difficult time.

What a beautiful tribute. That is exactly what we learned who Ante was. It is unfortunate that we just recently were able to spend a few times with him on Marians birthday. Prayers and hugs to Joe, Diane, Paul and the lovely granddaughters.

My apologies. I wrote in Croatian forgetting that not all would under stand. Here is the English version.

My heart is full of sadness. I love you and I miss you.

My Kum, so many tears from heart…why, was not your time. I so much wanted to start to spend more time with you and the family. I am too late, but I promise to talk to you every night. SO MUCH LOVE TO YOU, Ani.
