In Celebration of

Anne Elizabeth Dey

November 1, 1947 -  July 4, 2019

Voracious Gardener, Animal Lover, Paramount Caregiver. Words that only touch the surface in describing Anne Dey, who entered eternal life on Thursday, July 4th, 2019 having passed away at Credit Valley Hospital after a brief but acute illness. Her beautiful spirit is survived and carried on by her devoted and beloved husband Robert Dey, her loving children that she was a proud protector of in daughters Jamila Godfrey (John), Selina Dey (Kyle), stepsons Leonard Thomas, Earl Dey, Aubrey Dey and her grandchildren that were her ultimate pride and joy Braeden and Ethan Godfrey, as well as an extended family of relations and friends from every walk of life that reach far and wide across Canada, United States, South America and England. Anne touched the lives of so many during her 71 years on earth. She entered the world on November 1st, 1947 born in Burford, Ontario to Harold Amy and Gwendolyn Greenwood Amy. She grew up on the farm of her parents with 4 supportive siblings that she would always remain close with – Mary Flaherty, Connie Boone (Bill), Susan Fitzgerald (Deceased)(Gary) and Bryan Greenwood (James). A graduate of Alma College, Brantford Business College and St. Joseph’s Nursing College, Anne would grow to be a dedicated, gentle force with a stellar nursing career for over 40 years who was always eager and willing to serve the needs of others by working in such world-renowned hospitals such as the Hospital for Sick Children, Mount Sinai Hospital, Women’s College Hospital and Toronto General Hospital. Anne was a great believer in family, family values and the importance of ancestral tradition. She loved to bake, cook and preserve by the rules and recipes laid out and collected by women of her ancestry for generations. She was a brilliant musician and pianist, and also played the violin having taken up old-style fiddling later in life, a skill that she took to immediately and brilliantly. Selfless, warm & affirming, Anne will always be remembered for her contagious laughter, her enthusiastic passion for gardening, a bedazzled sense of style, unparalleled dance moves and her deep love for animals. More than everything though, what we learned from Anne, is that being unhappy and miserable is a waste of time. Look for the light, live in the light, be the light. She illumined the lives of everyone she met with cheer, love, smiles, outrageous laughter and a go-get-em approach to living that we can all learn from.

Donations in her memory can be made to an animal shelter she regularly volunteered at: http://www.mississauga.ca/portal/residents/animal-services-donate

There will be an open casket visitation to say final goodbyes on Friday July 12th, 2019 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. with a private Eastern Star Service at 6:30 p.m. A public funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 13th, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. All visitations and services will take place at Turner & Porter "Peel Chapel", 2180 Hurontario St, Mississauga, ON, L5B 1M8.

We at the shelter are deeply saddened to hear of Anne's passing. She loved coming to the shelter and spending time with our kitty cats. She met many friends there and will be missed. She always had a big smile and oh what a story teller. She made a difference to all that met her including her furry friends. Our condolences to all that knew this lovely and vibrant lady.
