The family is saddened to announce the passing of Anica Kuchan, our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Anica passed away peacefully in her sleep, on Monday February 10, 2025, at Labdara Lithuanian Nursing Home in Etobicoke. Anica was predeceased by her husband, Ivan Kuchan (2017) and by her parents, Ivan and Milka Polic, her sister Dragica and her brother Milan.

Ivan and Anica were inseparable! They enjoyed travelling in Canada, Croatia and the Caribbean. Their home was a happy home, always a welcome open door to many; especially those new to Canada. Moreso, Nona always enjoyed the presence of her grandchildren, ensuring chocolate treats were always available.

A good hearty meal was always on the table, followed by Nona’s Apple Strudel; she was a master at stretching a ball of dough to cover the kitchen table making a very fine pastry and filling it with apples. Anica and Ivan built a loving life and family together, instilling in their children kindness, thoughtfulness and always lend a helping hand to others. Anica had a long career with CIBC. Her mathematical skills were sharp as ever!

Anica was a dear mother to Lillian Ugrin (Marinko) and Georgina Mlinaric (Zlatko). Anica was a very proud grandmother of Dr. Linda Ugrin, Sandra Allison (Scott), Michelle Mlinaric and Michael Mlinaric. Anica enjoyed holding great-grandchildren Maya, Jasper, Russell and Lucy in her arms when they were born.
A heartfelt thank you to the Nurses and PSWs at Labdara: Mariola, Miheret, Mirella, Marina and Manulla for the gentle, loving care Anica received there; as well as gratitude to Lilieth Clarke for her care and friendship over the years.

Nona, may the angels welcome you. Rest in peace. Nono is waiting to dance with you. We will have you in our hearts forever.

Friends will be received on Friday, February 21st, from 5:00pm – 8:30pm at Turner & Porter, Peel Chapel, 2180 Hurontario Street, Mississauga, L5B 1M8.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, February 22nd at 10 am, Croatian Martyrs Church, 4605 Mississauga Road, Mississauga L5M 7C6.

Interment to follow in Hreljin, Croatia.
