On June 14th, Andrzej passed away peacefully at Princess Margaret Hospital with his family at the age of 64 after a year and a half long battle with cancer.

Andrzej leaves behind his wife of 40 years Małgorzata and his son Kamil (Stephanie). Cherished brother of his twin sisters Agata Żytka (Wojtek) and Dorota Żak.

Andrzej was born in Sanok, Poland and served in the army for two years as a tank commander. He came to Canada in the 1980’s after a short stay in Greece where he made some life-long friends. He brought his wife Gosia over shortly after he arrived and they made a life for themselves in Toronto, ON. Andrzej worked for the Toronto Catholic District school board for 30+ years as a custodian.

Andrzej was known for his contagious laugh and love of sharing history, jokes and personal stories “from back home”. He deeply loved Poland and ensured that the culture and language was passed down to his son.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses that cared for Andrzej throughout his battle with cancer, especially the GI clinic team at Princess Margaret Hospital.

A Graveside Service will be held at Assumption Catholic Cemetery in Mississauga on Wednesday, June 21 at 10 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to Princess Margaret Cancer Care Foundation, GI Cancer Research and Education Fund.

Andrzej will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
