In Celebration of

Agatha Myrtle Alstrom

October 3, 1936 -  January 16, 2022

Agatha Myrtle Alstrom lovingly referred to as “Sister Myrtle” and as “Mommy”, passed away peacefully in Mississauga on Sunday, January 16, 2022, at the age of 85 years. She was the beloved wife of the late Robert Algernon Alstrom for 57 years. Loving Mother of Robert Bruce, the late Henry Baynes, and Agatha Alstrom (Brian Beauchamp). Dear Grandma of Corinne. Born in Georgetown, Guyana, she was the daughter of the late Cordelia and George Nathaniel Liverpool and the granddaughter of the late Mary Adriana Liverpool Mathis. Sister to Cordelia Liverpool Granger and the late George Liverpool. Agatha leaves behind many cousins, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who will miss her dearly.

She was an amazing educator and a woman of deep faith and strength. At a very tender age, Myrtle and her two siblings were brought up by their grandmother, “Mother Mathis”. Myrtle’s fortitude and focus on education was instilled by her grandmother and passed down to her children and family.

Myrtle and Robert introduced their children to amazing Guyanese traditions, food (Myrtle was a great chef!), family, travel, Saturday night black & white movies with Elwy Yost and a never-ending list of britcoms – particularly Are You Being Served, All Creatures Great and Small, Allô! Allô!, Yes Minister to name a few. Of course her children will also never forget Mom’s never-ending corrections of their English grammar – they used to lovingly fear her “red pen” and the essays she would “ask” them to write “for fun” but they attribute her attention to education as a big part of their success today. Her favorite cheat food – a Cadbury chocolate bar - which always reminded her of her favorite snack when she was studying in England.

The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks and deep appreciation for all the acts of kindness, prayers, sympathy and support extended to them during this time of bereavement. They hope that you leave some memories and condolences below. The family would also like to extend a particular thank you to Oswald & Joan Patrick who helped take care of Myrtle and Robert over the past several years. It is comforting to know that Myrtle is now reunited with her husband Robert and her son Henry, forever in peace now.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Parish on Friday, May 6, 2022, at 11 am followed by an interment at Assumption Catholic Cemetery.

If desired, donations may be made to the Jean Augustine Centre for Young Women Empowerment at https://jeanaugustinecentre.ca in memory of Agatha.
