In Celebration of

Alice Robertson

May 18, 1934 -  July 20, 2022

With heavy hearts we announce the death of Alice Gertrude (Marks) Robertson, 88, at St. Joseph’s Health Centre in Toronto on July 20, 2022. She is predeceased by her husband Stuart and her siblings Mary Raal and Jack Marks. She is survived by her children Jeananne (Rick Fleischmann), Donald (“Jocko”), and Jennifer.

Alice was born May 18, 1934, in Listowel, ON to William Wesley and Annie (Howe) Marks. After graduating (1952) from Listowel District Secondary School, Alice earned a BA in Chemistry at Queens University (1956) and an MA at University of Toronto (1957). She worked as a chemist for CIL in Kingston, for Joe Lyons in London England, and for the Ontario Research Foundation in Toronto before teaching High School as Assistant Head of Chemistry at Central Tech in Toronto.

Alice and Stu were married on June 23, 1959, in London England. Throughout their life together they were ardent travellers – especially exploring North America by car. Summer road trips were a staple which continued even after they had a van-full of kids. Alice and Stu were active members of the Baby Point Club community, and their home was a busy harbour for their children and their friends. After Stu’s death in 1985, Alice continued to make her home a welcoming gathering place and refuge for her children and their friends.

Alice played bridge regularly at the Baby Point Club, the University of Toronto Applied Science Women’s Association (ASWA), and most recently, at Delmanor Prince Edward. She enjoyed Lawn Bowling, cryptic crossword puzzles, and murder mysteries. An accomplished knitter, Alice created unique, colourful, and meticulously designed blankets and sweaters.

For her children, she was an apparently tireless supporter, cheerleader, advocate and confidante, a family and community hub. Her patience and tenacity set an excellent example, and her kindness and equanimity created a sense of safety and “a soft place to land” when life got a bit bumpy. She will be dearly missed and gratefully celebrated.

Celebration of Life

Family, friends, and members of Alice’s communities are invited to join her children in celebrating her life at the Baby Point Club (71 Baby Point Rd) on Saturday August 20, 2022, from 2:00 until 5:00 PM. Casual attire is encouraged.

In Lieu of Flowers

We invite you to donate to the Lung Health Foundation (LHF) in her memory, in place of sending flowers.

Alice was like a second Mom to us Baby Point kids, we all loved and respected her. Alice always made sure we had a place to hang out and she made the Best Peanut Butter and Honey sandwiches for my lunch many many times throughout my childhood. I feel very blessed to have had Alice as part of my life and she will be forever missed and remembered. Our deepest Condolences to Jeananne , Jocko, Jennifer, and Rick.
