Alexandra Cordeiro, affectionately known as Ally was born 1934 in Bombay India and passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her husband and family on April 29, 2024, in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada.
Ally grew up in Nairobi Kenya with her parents Major. Dr. George and Eslinda Roche and sister Cecilia and her Grand-parents Dr. Rosendo (OBE) and Margarita Ribeiro where they enjoyed life surrounded by family and friends. This is where she caught Joseph (Jose) Cordeiro’s eye. It was love at first sight for Jose. After he won her heart, she was truly devoted to him. The two were married in 1959.
In 1970, Ally and Jose moved to Toronto, Canada leaving behind a very comfortable life, friends, and family to give their two children Fiona and Victor a better future.
Ally was a staunch advocate of family values, known for hosting gatherings to bring together extended family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, nurturing friend, active in her church and as a community advocate. She was devoted to Our Lady and through prayer assisted her grand-children with exams and major milestones – she was everyone’s cheerleader. She and Jose traveled most parts of the world and were blessed with many unique experiences. Outside the family, her passions included piano, baking Christmas sweets, music, knitting, sewing, tending to her African violets and orchids and line dancing.
Throughout her 65 years of marriage Ally shared a deep and unwavering bond with Jose. Together, they created a home filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. Ally was a pillar of strength and support for her family, always offering a listening ear, sage advice and unconditional love. Her generosity included sponsorship of several children for 50 plus years.
Ally is survived by her loving and devoted husband Jose, her daughter Fiona (Desmond), son Victor (Shilpa), grandchildren Kevin (Alex), Alan, Justin, Selene and Christian, great grandchildren Madeleine and Jack; sister Cecilia, one brother in-law and five sister’s in-law, numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. She will be greatly missed by all. Her legacy is the impact that she made on all of us. We pay tribute to a woman who put others before herself.
No longer by our side – but forever in our hearts.
