In Celebration of

Zofia Rupik-Markowska

December 23, 1952 -  February 21, 2025

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and wife Zofia Rupik-Markowska (Zosia or Sophie to friends and loved ones), who departed this world peacefully in the early hours of Friday, February 21 with her loving husband by her side.

While our hearts are heavy with grief, we also celebrate the life of an extraordinary woman who was equal parts daring and selfless.

Born in Myszków, Poland in 1952, Zofia was the youngest of four children of Bronisław and Kazimiera Rupik whom she joins in peace and everlasting light.

Zofia’s love of learning lead her to attain a Masters degree in informatics and while at the University of Silesia in Katowice she met Waldemar Markowski who would become her husband of nearly 50 years.

In 1984, Zofia emigrated to Canada, joining her mother and her sister Anna. Soon after, she began a career in the field of aeronautic manufacture and assembly at Boeing - De Havilland that would span nearly 30 years. In 1987, she was joined by her husband in Toronto, and together they built a loving home for their son and daughter.

In life, as in work, she always brought passion, dedication, and an unwavering sense of self. She loved to travel, cook, bake and garden (so many plants!), but above all she loved spending time with her family and friends. Always ready to lend a helping hand, fix a quick and yummy meal, ready to listen and share words of encouragement or solace, she was kind-hearted and giving – she was very much a Mother in every sense of the word.

She is survived by her husband, Waldemar; daughter, Victoria; son, Paul; grandson, Jack; older sister, Barbara, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Rest in peace, our beautiful Zosia, we will miss you always.

As her neighbour, I knew very well that she was a Mother in every sense of the word. She gave so much of herself to others, and she always had kind and understanding words to share. I often marveled at her strength.

Yet, she was also so much more than a Mother. She had an amazing career and built an incredible life in Canada for her children and grandchildren.
