In Celebration of

Yvonne Thompson

November 30, 1953 -  November 9, 2025

It is with the deepest sadness that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Yvonne Thompson on Sunday, November 9 at the age of 71. She was born in Toronto on November 30, 1953 to parents Andrew and Mary Lewis.

Yvonne lived a life of adventure and made friends wherever she went: whether it was working for the Asian Wall Street Journal in Hong Kong, serving as the President of the Canadian Women’s Club in Chicago, or baking cookies for election volunteers. She worked in PR and Communications for 50 years, and lent her flair for writing to many companies in Toronto including Manulife, Castrol, Kiewit, and Aecon.

Yvonne was a larger-than-life presence, full of laughter, wit, and sage advice. She was also the woman who would do anything for anyone. She was the go-to person to pick you up at the airport, drive you to an errand, or proof-read your resume. She was a prolific birthday and Christmas card sender. She loved hosting elaborate and delicious feasts for Thanksgiving and Christmas, and she never listened when we told her we didn’t need three different types of pie. Her door was open to everyone, and there was always a seat at her table.

She was especially devoted to her children and grandson. She showed her love through selfless acts of service, and we knew there was nothing she wouldn’t do for us.

She will fondly be remembered for her love of cooking, her beautiful garden, her fascination with bird watching, and her enduring loyalty to the Toronto Blue Jays.

Yvonne will be deeply missed by her daughters Stephanie and Victoria, her grandson James, her brother Andrew, her nephew Stuart, her son-in-law Chris, her dog Murphy, and a legion of loving friends.

Friends may call at the Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor St. W., on Thursday, November 20, 2025 and Friday, November 21, 2025 between 5 – 8 p.m.

The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2025 at Royal York Road United Church at 1 p.m., followed by a celebration of life at the church.

Although Yvonne loved flowers, her family asks that in lieu of flowers a donation please be made to Sick Kids Hospital.

I am blessed to have been one of your friends. Not a acquaintance but an LLF - Life-long Friend. The kind with which you can share laughs, memories and speak of regrets.

How can 50 years go by so fast?
