Winnifred Venetia Lewis

August 26, 1929 -  May 24, 2023


Mrs. Winnifred Venetia Lewis passed away on May 24, 2023. She was the child of Thaddeus Watson, and Victoria Leslie born in St. Mary Jamaica on the 26th of August, 1929. She is predeceased by her sisters Millicent, Floris, and brother Roy. She is survived by sisters Una and Joyce.

In 1955 she migrated to Manchester, England, to pursue dreams of a better life for herself, and attended Hope Hospital where she became a Registered Nurse. Winnifred left for Ontario Canada in 1966 to continue her nursing career at Oshawa General Hospital. She then moved to St. Joseph’s Health Centre. During this time she met and married Elisha (John) Lewis and the union produced two daughters, Jacqueline and Michele. John predeceased her in 1999. She worked at St. Joseph’s for 25 years until her retirement. Winnifred was a devoted wife and mother. Her love and dedication to God, and her family was the single most important thing for her.

In later years, Winnifred enjoyed fellowship at City Centre Baptist Church where she grew under the leadership of Pastor Deric.
After retirement, she delighted in cooking and entertaining family and friends..

Winnifred was peacefully called home to glory on May 24, 2023, at the Reactivation Care Centre (North York) after a short illness. She leaves behind daughters Jacqueline Lewis, Michele Lewis - Andrews, her husband Martin Andrews, and grandsons Martin Andrews Jr. and Matthew Andrews. She is also sadly missed by sisters Joyce Brown, and Una Ford, nieces, nephews, other family members, and a host of friends.

We cannot, Lord, Thy purpose see.
But all is well that's done by Thee.
