He was born on December 24, 1924 in Longfield, Kent, England and raised in Northfleet then later in Grays, Kent, England. As with most young men and women of that age he participated in World War II as a Radar Technician with the Royal Navy. A few years later he moved to Toronto where he started working in the accounting office. On April 8, 1960 he married Joan Buchanan and they lived first in North York and then in Etobicoke. Joan passed away on January 20, 2014. Bill is survived by his son Michael and daughter-in-law Joanne, daughter Sarah Jane VandenBerg, son-in-law Mark, granddaughter Tasmine and grandson Luke.
Over the years Bill developed many interests; tennis, sailing and wine making. When retired at 62 he started to play golf and volunteered at an English as a Second Language Centre. Both Joan and he enjoyed travel to far away places and sampling many different cultures. When Joan passed away, he decided to move from Toronto to Leacock Retirement Lodge in Orillia when he enjoyed a wide variety of activities and outings.
A memorial visitation with reception will be held at Turner & Porter Butler Chapel, 4933 Dundas St W. Etobicoke (between Islington and Kipling Aves), on Thursday, February 21, 2019 from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.
