It is with deep sadness that the family of Walter Ludwig, shares that he passed away peacefully, at Toronto Western Hospital, Toronto, the morning of Thursday June 12, 2025.
Born on June 22, 1934 in Lithuania, Walter moved to Germany at a young age, and later moved to Canada in 1956. It is there that he met his dear wife of 66 years, Maria Ludwig (predeceased 2022). Walter was a devoted father to sons Rainer (Dagmar) of Toronto, and Eduard (Joan) of Timmins. Walter was a loving Opa to his two grandsons Kurt (Briana) of Timmins, and Nathan (Erin) of Sydney, Australia. He will be remembered lovingly by his two great-grandsons, Liam and Owen of Timmins, and his great granddaughter, Millie of Sydney.
Walter was predeceased by his siblings Erna, Arthur, Maragaret, and Lydia.
Being trained as a cabinet maker, Walter spent most of his working life as a plant foreman for a store fixture company. Walter had an extensive interest in the natural resources of Ontario, closely following and supporting many junior mining companies. He found immense pleasure in gardening, fishing and picking blueberries, and had a keen appreciation for his visits to the north.
After retirement, Walter, a true do-it-your-selfer, filled his days with carpentry and remodeling projects, often lending a hand to friends and family. He spent many happy days looking after the lawns and huge vegetable and flower gardens, traveling with Maria, and always going for long walks with his dogs. Walter’s greatest love was his family and the very special times they spent together. In memory of Walter, this summer, please pick a large bowl of wild blueberries and share it with your family. Remembrance donations to the charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
A private family gathering celebrating Walter’s life is planned. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor St W, Toronto, ON
