Walter Albert Jakowec

December 10, 1933 -  December 12, 2025

Walter Jakowec, age 92, passed away peacefully on December 12, 2025, at Sunrise Assisted Living. He was born on December 10, 1933, in Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec, to Maria and Nicholaus Jakowec.

Walter served in the Air Force as a mechanic and later worked as a mechanical engineer. A lifelong traveler, he loved exploring the world, sharing stories of his journeys, and spending time outdoors. Above all, Walter was a family man, proud of his children and grandchildren, and known for his generosity, kindness, and warm smile. He was deeply loved by all who met him.

He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Jakowec, and his daughter, Laura Facca, who is survived by her husband, Mauro Facca, and their children, Justin and Emma.

Walter is survived by his children: Barbara Baratto and her husband Robert, their children Christopher, Steven, and Charlene, and grandchildren Owen, Payton, Jordan, Taylor, and Axel; Michael Jakowec and his wife Giselle, and their children Nicolaus, Pascal, and Dominique; Donna Jakowec and her husband Jonathan, and their children Desmond and Audrey; Christine Derks and her husband Barry, and their children Erik, Holly, and Peter; Suzanne Jakowec and her husband Bill, and their children Taylor and Daniel; and Joanne Jakowec, and her children Jacob and Victoria.

In his later years, Walter shared a cherished companionship with Carolyn Hand, traveling and enjoying many memorable experiences together.

Walter will be remembered for his kindness, curiosity, and devotion to family.

I have soo many memories being at dzjadzja house while he ate green onions after work in the kitchen. He was instilling hard work into me as a child while going to the farm in Brantford. I love you sir. Rest easy. Chris.

A lot of fond memories on Springfield court with all of the families. Mr J was always smiling and joking. I can see him and Mary sitting in the front porch chatting with neighbors or hosting a big swim party. Love you Mr J
