Aunt Vi was always a presence in our lives. From our (that's my parents and I) time in Rexdale when I was growing up which included many family dinners and outings, to my later life when I was able to run errands for her while she selflessly cared for Uncle Jim (for years) during his decline from ALS, to being an official witness at my wedding to Lily, and ending with my infrequent visits to her at Parkview Long Term Care home. Her "just do it" attitude is what enabled her to stay independent well into her 80's while also battling diabetes (and winning for a very long time) and her attention to detail (bordering on the obsessive, which I say with a smile as she would just about have her income taxes completed when she'd call me to fill out her forms!) was second to none. The last year hadn't been easy on her and I can truly say she's now at rest...and a well deserved one at that. Still, the presence is gone and we're all diminished because of her passing.
Such a wonderful woman and will be missed by so many people. Aunt Vi lived a wonderful long life and even when her health was not the best, she would never complain. She always saw the good in others and was so caring, generous and kind. I feel privileged to have had her in my life. Although I will miss her terribly, I am comforted by knowing she is at peace and enjoying a much deserved rest.
