In Celebration of

Victor Umberto Bastianon

November 12, 1934 -  April 12, 2020

Victor passed away at the Villa Forum long-term care home on Sunday, April 12, 2020, due to complications from the Covid-19 virus. He was 85. Beloved husband of Lolita. A gentle and generous father to Adriana (Brent), Anthony (Denise) and Amy (Rick). Much loved Nonno to Sean, Alec, Marie, William and Liliana.

Victor came to Canada in 1954 when he was 19. With nothing but a cardboard suitcase, a few dollars and a heart full of hope and ambition. He learned English, embraced being Canadian and worked extremely hard to build a life and family from scratch.

He loved his work and was counted on day in and day out. He prided himself on never asking any of his employees to do something that he wouldn’t step up and do himself.
He was smart, logical, always thinking calmly and clearly. Especially when it had to do with math, mechanics and physics. He helped us win more science fairs than you can imagine.
His morning espresso was a sacred ritual. The more cookies he dunked into it, the better.
He could fix or build anything. When he did, it was guaranteed to last a hundred more years.
There wasn’t a bread, cheese or salami that the man didn’t devour with gusto.
He had a great sense of humour. Loved to talk and laugh and could strike up a conversation with anyone, anywhere.
His religion was a cornerstone and he followed his faith to the best of his ability.
He was kind, loving, patient and treated everyone with equal respect.

Thank you…Victor…Dad…Zio…Nonno…for who you were and everything you provided for us. We will miss you and love you forever.

Due to the Covid-19 situation, a traditional mass or service cannot happen at this time. When circumstances are more suitable, a Celebration of Life will be held.

To Adrianna, Brent, Sean, Alec & Marie

A beautiful eulogy for a strong, independent, caring husband, father and grandfather. Our heart goes out to all of you. Times are really hard, especially hard to lose a loved one at this time. You have clearly had many special times together as a family and I hope those memories help you to cope at this time.
Lots of love and our thoughts are with you.

May God bless you all and keep you strong through these difficult times. It is easy to see what a wonderful father he was - it shines through in the love and caring of all the members of the family.

Adriana and family, our thoughts are with you. Victor sounded like a wonderful man - someone Paul and I would have enjoyed spending time with. We look forward to hearing and celebrating his stories with you.
