In Celebration of

Victor Hayes

April 19, 1948 -  May 23, 2018

Passed away peacefully, at Hamilton General Hospital, on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at the age of 70 years. Immensely loving and loved husband of Kathy Ullyott. Devoted father of Thomas, Evelyn and Bobbe. Beloved brother of James (Irene Bujara), Diana Jensen, the late Christopher (Marlene Kane), Cora Strasky (Douglas), Sheilah Hayes and the late Kathleen Hayes.

A former journalist, public relations practitioner and educator, Victor was treasured by many nieces and nephews, friends, colleagues, students and mentees for his limitless generosity, frank wisdom, courage and compassion. His lightning sense of humour – by turns wicked, goofy, poignant, self-deprecating and incisive (and often all of these) – will be missed terribly by the wide circles who knew and loved Victor.

Funeral Service will be held at Trinity – St. Paul’s United Church, 427 Bloor Street West, Toronto on Friday, June 1, 2018 at 1 PM. Arrangements entrusted to Turner & Porter ‘Neweduk-Erin – Mills’ Chapel, 905-828-8000.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Dr. Lorraine Kalia’s Research Fund at the Toronto General & Western Hospital Foundation would be appreciated by the family; please visit www.tgwhf.ca/tribute.

Amazing man who cared deeply about every student, not just in general but their individual stories. He will truly be missed by all his students. He will be with us at our graduation looking over us.

Professor Victor Hayes, or Uncle Vic, as throughout the years he grew to be to me- which he knew and smiled at every time I would call him that... was one of the most light-hearted, magical and special individuals I ever had the honour of knowing. I respected him, was inspired by him, and learned so much from him as my Professor, but also just by the human being he was. He was compassionate, incredibly wise, and always just had this incomparable and infectious level of excitement that he brought with him to every class, that I always admired, and further made me love and appreciate him more than I could ever express. Uncle Vic, although it saddens me to be writing this, I just want to say that you have forever left a mark in my heart, and no matter where I go in life, your lessons, the laughter we shared, and your incredibly kind and generous words that you graciously shared with me, will stay with me a lifetime! Love always, Raquel xx

I am so very sorry to hear of Victor's passing. He was always such a friendly presence in the office here at Humber on the days he was teaching. Sending my thoughts and condolences to his family.
