Peacefully, on Monday, July 31, 2017, at the Humber River Regional Hospital, at the age of 92. Beloved wife of the late James Leonard Downey. Loving mother of Barb (Gerry), Arlene (Mark) and Steve (Mary). Adored Gramma of Robert, Cory (Sheri), Cameron, Jordan, Emily, Ross, Kevin, Melanie and Great Gramma of Haley and Riley. Cherished sister of Irene, and sister-in-law of Norma and predeceased by her brothers Jack and Frank. Vera will be greatly missed by her many nieces, nephews and extended family, especially Joyce, and many friends, and her grand dogs Sam, Jackson, and Shelly. Vera loved spending time in Northern Ontario, particularly Temagami, where she had many friends and fond memories. Always caring and helpful, she was a volunteer for the Red Cross, for 25 years, delivering Meals on Wheels, finally retiring in her 90th year. Friends may call at the Turner & Porter Butler Chapel, 4933 Dundas St. W. at Burnhamthorpe, on Tuesday, August 15, 2017 from 10 a.m., followed by a Celebration of Life Service in the Chapel at 11 a.m. For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to the Gord Downie and Chanie Wenjack Fund.
