In Celebration of

Tomislav Prugo

May 4, 1969 -  September 24, 2017

Peacefully passed away after a long and courageous battle with cancer on September 24, 2017 at the age of 48 with his loving family by his side. Reunited with his beloved father Tonci, grandmother Lukrica and aunt Ina. Cherished husband of Ivanka, beloved son of Elizabeta, brother and best friend of Filko Prugo (wife April) of New York, and cherished brother of Lukrica of Toronto. Very special uncle to Roebling and Nedo. Dear son-in-law of Mirko and Nevenka Vrlic and brother-in-law of Ivan Vrlic. His honest and gentle soul will forever live on in the hearts of his many godchildren, extended family, and friends in Canada, Croatia and Slovenija.

Tom was born in Toronto on May 4, 1969. He graduated from Brebeuf High School and continued on to receive an undergraduate and Master’s degree in History followed by a Bachelor’s of Education Degree from Western University. Tom worked as a teacher at a variety of elementary schools eventually making his way to becoming a vice-principal. He was an avid reader of the New York Times and scholar of foreign affairs. He enjoyed painting, was passionate about music, and travelled extensively with his family and treasured wife of 21 years Ivanka. Tom was devoted and actively involved in his church community—Merciful Redeemer in Mississauga. Tom will fondly be remembered by the many students and lives he touched during his tenure with the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board. His loving, easy-going, and sincere nature made him beloved by all those who knew him.

A heartfelt thank you to all family, friends, and colleagues for your well wishes and prayers during Tom’s journey. His bravery and fighting spirit has left a deep imprint on us all.

Gentle soul, real dreamer and friend, rest in peace.

I will always remember you as my greatest teacher and mentor. Thank you for supporting me through my mental health struggles and making sure that my grades never reflected my challenging circumstance. I would not be in the Social Work field today without your recommendation and guidance. May you rest in peace and joy, Mr. Prugo.
