June 30, 2017
After a courageous battle with cancer, Thomas Shields Richmond, age 87, of Mississauga, Ontario passed away peacefully on June 30, 2017 surrounded by his family. Tom is survived by Olive, his wife of 55 years; his four children: Gail (Mike), Rhonda (Darren), Gary (Ingrid), Craig (Lynn); his grandchildren : Jess, David (Elizabeth), Krista (Jonathan), Heather,Emily, Rebecca, Andrea, Jessica, Elizabeth; his great grandchildren: Frankie, Rockelle, Ruby ; survived by his brothers: Joe and James and many nieces and nephews in Scotland; pre-deceased by: his parents Abigail and Hugh, his brother Hugh and sisters Grace and Margaret . Tom grew up in Scotland and worked in the coal mines for thirteen years, the last seven of those years were spent working in the Mines Rescue Brigade. He then immigrated to Toronto and served our community as a member of the Peel Regional Police Department from 1958 to 1990. "Sarge", as he was called by his friends, married the love of his life, Olive, on April 21, 1962. This marriage bloomed into a "clan" of twenty-five people. We learned a lot from dad but nothing more important than his passion for family. All of our milestones and events were a priority to him. Whether it was watching a national championship or a game for last place in the league, you could always count on dad to be there- criticizing the referee and cheering for his family. We will be forever grateful to him for teaching us all that “family comes first “. Friends may call at the Turner & Porter Peel Chapel, 2180 Hurontario Street, (Hwy. 10 North of QEW) from 2-4 & 7-9pm on Tuesday July 4, 2017. The funeral service will be held at the Mississauga City Baptist Church, 3434 Cawthra Road, Mississauga at 11am on Wednesday July, 5, 2017. The family would like to express their heart-felt gratitude to the Doctors and Nurses at Mississauga Trillium ICU for the care and the compassion that they provided Tom over the last 5 weeks. In memory of Thomas memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
