It is with very heavy hearts that we say goodbye to our beloved Susan. Left to mourn her absence are her husband Nevin, daughters Shealyn (Andy) and Caitlyn (Nate), father Adji and step-mother Yanti, mother Ernie and step-father Bintoro, brother David (Erica), sister Sari (Andre), mother-in-law Phoebe (Bernard), brothers-in-law Jeff (Michelle), Tim (Corinna), sister-in-law Jill (Doug), countless nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins, and a multitude of friends and acquaintances.
Susan was born in Jakarta, Indonesia and moved to Canada in 1982 with her family, building a fulfilling and rewarding life in this country. She met and fell in love with Nevin in Toronto in 1988, and they married in 1992. Together they raised two talented and loving daughters who were the center of her life. Shealyn and Caitlyn later brought home two wonderful men, Andy and Nate, who became the sons Susan never had. Life was wonderful with beautiful family memories made everyday.
Anyone who knew Susan knew what a caring, thoughtful, amazing woman she was. She always put others first, everyone from her husband and daughters to the workers at her favourite stores. She made sure everyone she met felt recognized, leaving a positive impact everywhere she went. Susan was a lover of food, but even more so a lover of feeding others. No one left her home without a full belly and a takeaway container. She was funny without even trying, beautiful without any effort, and all she wanted from life were the simple things: time with her family and to know her daughters and husband were happy.
In 2016, Susan was diagnosed with breast cancer and, in typical Susan fashion, met the disease head-on, battling it with strength and dignity. She was given a clean bill of health a year later. In the years following, Susan was a proud survivor, participating in various events to support breast cancer advocacy and research with her family.
In December 2025, after navigating a series of health complications, it was determined that the cancer had returned. With a supportive family and a positive mental outlook, she proceeded to fight it once again. She maintained her strength and grace everyday, despite the mental, physical, and emotional toll that came her way in the following weeks. Her devoted husband and daughters made sure she never went through any of it without someone by her side, and her beloved boys were there to lend a helping hand every step of the way. After a noble fight, and staying strong through every treatment attempt, it was determined nothing more could be done. For two days, she held on, her body and soul continuing to fight a little longer so her family could be together, and with her, until she took her final breath. Susan passed away peacefully on the morning of February 9th.
