In Celebration of

Susan Hoenhous

March 1, 1961 -  July 27, 2022

It is with deep sorrow that the family of Susan Hoenhous announces her sudden passing on July 27, 2022, after a brief illness.

Funny, smart, resilient, and kind, Susan was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia. She moved to Toronto for graduate school at U of T in the mid-80s. She then had careers in the NGO sector, the Ministry of Community and Social Services, and the Toronto District School Board, where she found her calling.

Susan began her TDSB career as a parent and member of the Parent Council at Queen Victoria Public School (now DRC/KM), which inspired her to get her B.Ed and become a teacher. She worked in several schools in West Toronto, where she expressed her love of the Parkdale community in her teaching. She strived to bring out the best in her students and was hugely motivated by their success, taking great pride in their accomplishments. Her students loved her, and parents would stop her on the street or in the halls to talk about their children’s memories of being in her class.

Susan’s pride and greatest joy was her family. She was also a loyal friend, generous to a fault, who was happy to share her talents and hobbies with anyone interested. She engaged her family and friends in topics that she loved and was talented in, such as cooking, politics and crafting of all sorts. Her thoughtful gift-giving was notable and always cherished. She brought fun to all situations with her sense of humour and planning skills.

Susan is survived by her husband Rand and daughter Liz (Elizabeth). She is deeply missed by them, her sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews and many friends.

For those who wish, donations in Susan’s memory can be made to St. Joseph’s Health Centre Foundation. A private family service of remembrance will be held at a later date.
