In Celebration of

Steven Yuricek

January 31, 1948 -  April 11, 2024

In loving memory of Steven Yuricek (Stjepan Juricek), who peacefully passed away on Thursday April 11th, 2024 at the age of 76.

Steven was a vibrant soul, extremely social, a constant helper and a kind friend.

Born in Volavje, Croatia on January 31, 1948 to the late Leo and Mary Yuricek. He was the beloved husband of the late Barbara Bell. A devoted father of Maja (Ryan) and Lucas. A loving brother of the late Joseph and caring uncle to many nieces and nephews. His proudest role was that of "Didi" (grandfather) to Isla, James, Lily and Wesley. He will be sadly missed by all of his extended family and friends.

Friends may pay respects at the Turner & Porter - Peel Chapel, 2180 Hurontario St, Mississauga on Friday April 26th. Visitation at 9:30am, followed by a Funeral service in the chapel at 11:00am.

Steven worked for many years for World Vision Canada, traveling all over the world from Mali to Haiti to Indonesia. In lieu of flowers, the family is suggesting a donation in Steven's honor:

Stevie was an artist, individualist a non-conformist and never did that prove to be truer than at my wedding in 1971. You see, he was a groomsman in our wedding party and although he did wear a tuxedolike the other groomsmen, he certainly stood apart with his wavy shoulder-length hair, moustache and of course, his caramel-coloured hush puppies (those of you who were around in 1971 know what these were) – my hippie cousin. Stevie, your little old house stands as a reminder of the many summers you spent here sitting on a lawn chair on the front yard with either a glass of white wine or a stiff martini. Oh Stevie, summers in Volavje will not be the same without you. We miss you dearly and you will always be in our hearts. With love, cousin Millie Mandekic.

Stevie was like an older brother to me. When I, as a kid, watched my “Chichi” draw and paint a cathedral tower to perfection, I was totally wowed by his artistic skills and talent. He was now forever the coolest of all my cousins. My husband Zdenko and I had the pleasure of hanging out with Stevie, two years ago in Volavje (his birthplace) as we live just across the backyard. He especially had a good time with Zdenko and the boys visiting the local wineries. Many happy memories were made and Chichi will forever be in our hearts. We miss you so very much…love you, Carol and Zdenko.

Dearest Uncle Stevie, our hearts have been broken since we heard the news of your passing. Your sweet and innocent wooden house in Volavje where you were born, stands emptier now without you in the world. You were pure joy. Always smiling and eating apple strudel and we loved celebrating birthdays and having our Yuricek family Christmas with you. How lucky your grandchildren are to have known you and have you in their lives. You will be dearly, dearly missed. Tell Auntie Barbara, Uncle Joe, Mikey, Baka Boza and Deda Bozek that we miss them. Love Carol Anne, Marko, Noa and Dario.
